Man Fashions Amphibious Craft From School Bus (CALLING SHORT BUS!!)

<snip>

When Bill Stringer went to Cox Park yesterday, he expected to enjoy a quiet morning next to the Ohio River. Instead, he saw something that stopped him in his tracks.

A man was preparing to launch a school bus into the river.

"I thought, what?" Stringer said. "That thing has two chances of floating — slim and none."

But Mark Roehrig, who fashioned the amphibious craft from a school bus, was convinced that it would float.

"She passed with flying colors," Roehrig yelled with excitement, after the craft floated for about 20 minutes.

Roehrig, 42, was excited because his dream of traveling around the world in his amphibious craft had just taken a big step forward. The craft, which is about half finished, had never been in the water.

"We're about ready to sail the world," Roehrig said. "Nobody has ever sailed around the world in an amphibious school bus."

4. I think they did do something like that on Monster Garage.
They also did something similar on Junkyard Wars. It was an amphibious thing, but not a school bus.

8. Pontoon Bus

1989 Ford 20-Passenger School Bus / Pontoon

Imagine — It's August 2002, and you've acquired a 1989 Ford 20-passenger school bus. What to do. Well, why not turn it into a pontoon party boat? Ah, if only Gilligan had had Jesse James and his team of monster mechanics around.
