I am sure my liberal Catholic friends at DU would agree with me and my agnostic bud more so and I think my relatives would do the same.

I don't understand why Catholics are Republicans
Don't they understand that the southern Baptist Republican's consider thier religion a cult. Is Abortion that much of hot button issue for Catholics that they'll risk being put in concentration camps to stop it. By the way I love the Dennis Kucinich Avator:)

14. thank you
I dunno but I swear they are Opus Dei I cant prove it because I dont know. I feel like an athiest to them. Little would they know that mainstream and Catholics who believe that promoting the peace are better than their warmongreling selves. I think I told them once that the Southern Baptists hate them.
Catholics unite against right wing fundamalism
promote peace and justice.

3. The religion issue is difficult
Our society considers it a taboo to discuss religion. Thus the camps become increasingly isolated and develop along different lines. We no longer know how to talk to one another about the subject. People become angry and confrontational having built expectations about the opposition. Notions of good and evil are entwined as well. Moral superiority also manages to stick it's head into the mix. Do not be to hard on yourself for not stepping in. But perhaps you should consider how such a thing can be avoided in the future. Maybe this is a sign that those involved need to talk about some things and all can learn something. The best way to avoid another such confrontation is to head it off before it ever has the chance to occurr again.

me and the two hardliners belong to the Catholic church. My friend is an agonstic and is half greek and half japanese. I even got the one hardliner to admit that forcing someone to learn religion is like propaganda my agonstic bud nick laughed and said yeah it kinda is. Also the one kid admitted it is kinda propganda. Since this all went down 4-5 hours ago I forget and dont wanna discuss some of it. I feel bad for not doing more though.

10. yeah, I've been there..
and i've regretted it. But, what matters is that you did help. If you don't think you did enough, call that person and tell them that you support them, don't let them get to you, etc...that'll do some good. Oh...and, there's always NEXT time...

7. Sometimes we soar with the eagles. . .

and sometimes the turkeys bring us down to their level.

As has already been said, we learn from our mistakes and do better in the future. But we can feel lousy when we haven't lived up to our expectations of ourselves. :-( A conscience is a heavy burden.

13. Dembones thats what I talked about btw I arrived on the battlefield
It sucks really dembones I know all these enlightened Catholics such as you, my grandparents, and my aunts and uncles than I see these jerks giving a kid who wasnt even born in to Catholicism a hard time. I should call my friend but dont know his phone number and I dont think I could because you see hes gotten in to fights with my brother and his parents hate my brother and probably me. I feel so bad dembones these are the Catholics the rev talks about but in my experience even though I live in a conservative area most of the Catholics are the best people. My godmother may she rest in peace was a very Catholic and lovable woman.

8. Call him/her up
Call your friend up and tell him (or her, I don't know the gender, sorry) that you feel bad for not standing up for him more.
I'm sure it'll be cool.
Good luck...RWers out to convert are really nasty.

11. Dont give me those "should have done"s
You can not go back and erase the past. Nor does it do you well to dwell on such things. Just learn from this experience and when the topic comes up again, knowing kids our age it will, you shall know how to help your friend from closely scrutinizing this now, therfore being able to reflect on it in the future,

16. I don't know the circumstances but
sometimes a moment overcomes you and you don't do enough
but you wanted to. You're human. You have more chances to
do right. I am impressed with people's ability to beat
themselves up. It means you have a conscience.

Tell your friend you are sorry, you meant to do more. That
counts. It truly does.
