DU Glasses Wearers - Which is less horrible? PearleVision or LensCrafters
I need new glasses bad, already have a prescription from my eye doctor, but can no longer afford the optical group he works with.

Since my prescription is pretty basic, it looks like one of the big chains for me. . .

Do any of you prefer one over the other?

THANKS in advance.

1. More a 'kick' than anything.
I'm in the same position -- I loved Eye World, but they went out of business a few years ago, and that's the last time I got my prescription renewed. My husband likes LensCrafters, but I think they're overpriced, personally. Curious to see if anybody here has had good luck anywhere else.

2. I got my latest pair from LensCrafters
I've been very pleased. My prescription is very strong, but they nailed it. Had to go back for one adjustment which they happily performed. Haven't used Pearle myself, so I can't compare the two, but I will definitely go back to LensCrafters.

3. Believe it or not, the Sears Optical Center is pretty good.
Good service, nice frames, low prices and not so crowded.

11. I think progressive lenses are
akin to no-line bifocals.

15. Variation on BiFocals
Instead of a top lense with my distance script and a bottom lense with my reading script. The lense is ground to slowly change from distance in the top center to reading in the bottom center. So half way in between I have half of my reading adjustment, whcih works out good for the computer and auto dashboard. But you give up some of the sides of the lenses to get it.

5. Not sure which is better...
...I've used both and a small shop, and they've seemed pretty comparable. So long as your prescription is a common one, is there really that much difference?

7. Costco
I can't speak for their glasses, but their contact lenses are 60% cheaper than my eye doctor's price.

I've looked at their frame selection, and it's pretty decent with very reasonable prices, and I've always liked their service.

And they're Democratic!

18. That's not necessary
You're not obligated to get your glasses at the shop where the guy has his practice. You can get your prescription filled anywhere.

I use 1-800-contacts. They FedEx my lenses for free. Very nice people to deal with.

19. I know but I have never tried other places. I still wear
glass because I could never get contacts into my eyes.

12. I don't like either one, but given the choice
I'd go to LensCrafters. They give a 30% discount for AAA members (and Pearle Vision once screwed up a pair of my glasses by switching the prescriptions for the right and left lenses - and then tried to tell me *I* was wrong and that I'd "get used" to the glasses!).

14. Went to Sear's
for no-line bifocals (yeah, I'm old). Got the reflective coating, also. I think it came to about $160. The turn around time took longer than I liked, but all in all, got good service. Check online for special deals or sales.

16. Thats a good price for progressive lenses..
I'll have to check them out. I don't like the anti glare coating because it scratches too easily.

20. Get thee to a For Eyes!!! 2 pair for $99
They can be sunglasses or regular lenses, and they have a really nice assortment of frames (in other words, you won't be limited to the really nasty frames nobody would ever want).
