where do these high post counts come from?

I've been on DU for a few years, and never felt shy about posting when I had something to say. I check it almost everyday, for a half hour or more. My total post numbers are almost 400. That's an average of a comment every couple of days for two years.

So why do the vast majority of DUers have 1000+ posts? Do they get into long conversations? Do they post constantly? Have they been here for five years?

What gives?

I've been around for years too, but for long periods of time I don't post. Then I have big mad posting sessions (like I'm in one now). That's why I haven't managed to break 1000 yet despite being a member since 2002 (I lurked since 2000).

I've been here almost 4 years and when I first showed up there weren't many people posting news links. I think there were about 4-5 of us that could have counted a news poster junkies. I also modded three times which helped push up the total too.

And as Shoeempress says, I don't have a life.

"Good for you!" and "You go girl!" and :hi: "Welcome to DU!" and "LOL ... bringing the funny!" and all that.

The way I see it is, people LIKE having their posts responded to. So, even if I don't have something particularly substantive to say, which, quite often I don't, I just see it as a little way to spread some sparkle into someone's day.

OK, that was nauseatingly cutesome, but you get the idea. :D
