My bluegrass band just got in off the road -- Bluegrass Road Trip, the Patchwork String Band 2004 Tour of northern MS!
One of the songs we've been doing is Last Letter Home, which I learned from the Amazing Rhythm Aces:
I can hear the cannons thundering at night And I cannot help but wonder why the rebels' cause was right And the morphine seems to do no good at all And I would run all the way if I would not fall
And I dreamed of a rose in a Spanish garden And I kissed you as I placed it in your hair And if I'm ever on my feet again I will, I will run all the way just to see you there.
I joined the Southern cavalry for fun I have rode a thousand horses, always had a way with a gun Now I'm one of the faceless riders lying still Swallowed up by the cause on Heroes' Hill.
And I dreamed of a rose in a Spanish garden And I kissed you as I placed it in your hair And if I'm ever on my feet again I will, I will run all the way just to see you there.
My new favorite song. Seems pretty relevant today.
