I'm scared!
I posted stuff on RonaldReagan.com as a troll. And they somehow banned me. (Not a shock) But, worse, they posted my e-mail, full name of one family member, and my IP. Are they allowed to do that? I know lots of them have guns because they all posted stuff on werenotsorry.com with huge guns.
In one of the messages, I made particular comments about which county I live in. I am honestly very, very concerned. My last name is not uncommon. I was doing some harmless trolling. How dare they post my information. It's scary.

14. It's sort of a like a hold harmless agreement?
In my state, they're not valid. Well, that is before the Republicans came into power. Who knows now? Basically, if they posted it knowing harm would come your way, then there may be a cause of action.

Word to the wise: Leave those nutcases alone. Fight your fights in person with people you don't give a damn about walking away from.

2. silly rabbit tricks are for kids
You shouldn't play with fire. Information online is relatively easy to discover. You could go and see if there is any kind of privacy policy at their site and if they claim to have one, get a lawyer and file suit, but it probably wouldn't do you much good.

3. I would forget about it
but if you're really worried, you could try calling their ISP and see if they can help. Tell them you feel threatened and perhaps they will require the site to take them down.

How did they get your info? Do you know?

7. On a lot of sites
mods and admins can see IPs when you post. also, if you give up a real email address-well, then their admin would have access to that.

5. Unfortunately, you did agree to this when you registered:
From their "Rules, Policies, and Disclaimers":

"We at this BB also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you."

9. It's things like this that really
make you read it. I know I'm gonna check those policies before joining boards/sites now.

6. Protect yourself to begin with. Contact their server and tell them what
happened and the server will take care of it. I have heard of message boards being closed down completely because of it. I would also print out the post that gave your personal info and any posts underenath and have it ready for the police or courts or anything like that.

Good luck--I'm on your side

12. Thanks
But, I don't know who to contact. You have to be logged in to send them comments, and the owners of the boards are right wing nutjobs. Which law enforcement department shall I contact?

15. go to this site
http://www.all-nettools.com/toolbox

Type the name of the site into NsLookup. It will tell you the IP of the site.

Copy the ip go back to the page you started on and paste into the smartwhois box and that will give you the ISP, with phone, address and abuse address.

Be really polite when you write about abuse. And it takes a while.

17. it works. I got the info and almost posted it
but I thought it might be against the rules...their IP is the top one the gamma. etc and falls in the range of the other one, They are in Texas, so they may be in violation of Texas law by putting your stuff out there like that.

18. I wrote
to the IP. And, I wrote my legislators. Hillary, Schumer, Steve Israel, and my state assemblyman, (ALL DEMS) They would love the publicity that would come with protecting one's privacy on-line.

11. If anyone WANTS to fool with assclowns hypothetically you may want
to use a proxy server. And test it on a site that tests proxies. Or get an anonimiser. Also use a throw-away email acct-do what you can to protect your identity.
Also, not hypothetically, turn in anyone who sends you a threatening email. Turn them into their ISP if they use nasty language with you. Most ISPs will take individuals down for cussing.

13. Irregardless of their stated "rules"
I would still say that something like that teeters very close to harassment.

If you're really concerned (I've never been to the site so I have no idea what goes on there), you should contact the hosting company they use and issue a complaint.

In the future, as if you didn't already realize this, be careful where you post and what information you give up when signing up. Everywhere you post your IP address is logged, which if you have cable or DSL can reveal quite a bit about you.
