12. What was the one from Canada that had Rowsdower in it?
Does anybody remember that one? It was set in some small western Canadian town, and was about some evil ancient culture that was rising again. The bad guys all drove around in early '70s muscle cars and wore black T-shirts, and the "hero" was a guy named "Rowsdower".

Anybody remember that one?

First one I ever saw, so it's got a special place for me.

I love Santa Claus Conquers the Martians solely for "A Swayze Christmas", my favourite Xmas song ever.

CROW: Uh, Cambot, shoot 'em the tune. Uh, okay, you'll just have to stay with
me, everybody, okay? Uh, your part's written out. Let's have a Patrick
Swayze Christmas, by Crow T. Robot.

JOEL: "Paul, let's have a Patrick Swayze Christmas"?

CROW: Right. Hit it, Cambot!

SERVO: Oh! Oh, I start. I get it. Hmm.

CROW: I'm sorry.

SERVO: Pick it up. "Open up your heart and let the Patrick Swayze Christmas
in."

CROW: "We'll gather at the Roadhouse with our next of kin."

SERVO: Not bad!

JOEL: "And Santa can be our regular Saturday night thing."

'BOTS: "We'll decorate our barstools and gather round and sing."

SERVO: "Oh, let's have a Patrick Swayze Christmas this year!"

CROW: "Or we'll tear your throat out and kick you in the ear!"

JOEL: Hold it, hold it a sec. Cambot, stop it. Uh, Crow, I don't know if I
think this is an appropriate sentiment anymore for Christmas.

CROW: Hey, what? Like a good action sequence don't belong in Christmas?

JOEL: Well, no, it's just that I've never heard of an action sequence in a
Christmas carol before.

SERVO: Well, yeah!

CROW: Well, then grab hold o' your socks and read on, Joel Robinson!

SERVO: Okay, pick it up from measure 20, Cambot. Lovely intro, though. Very
tasteful.

CROW: Thank you.

SERVO: I like that. "It's my way or the highway, this Christmas at my ba-ha-
haar."

CROW: "I'll have to smash your kneecaps if you bastards touch my car!"

JOEL: "I got the word that Santa has been stealing from the till."

'BOTS: "I think that that right jolly old elf better make out his will, ohh,"

ALL: "Oh, let's have a Patrick Swayze Christmas, one and all. And this can be
the haziest . . . this can be the laziest. . . this can be the Swayziest
Christmas of them *AAALLLLLLLLLL*!"

SERVO: "La la la laa ha HAAA!"

CROW: How long before it becomes a standard?

JOEL: I think you gotta come with me. C'mon.

CROW: Waaaaah!

SERVO: We'll be right back. Oooh. Save a leg for me! Heh heh heh.

"Five people are sitting in a New York bar with a mysterious Mr. Ohman, when they hear the news that the godless Communists are invading the good ol' U.S. of A. The five rush off to various sections of the country to do their part to stop the invasion, when an A-bomb crashes down upon Manhattan.

Turns out the invasion never happens, it was an experiment to test peoples reactions to a possible invasion

32. "A Date with the Family"
or, How to Be A WASP. Unbelievable. One of the most fascinating short films ever. Total brainwashing. Mom is in a frilly apron fixing supper w/daughter's help. Son is helping younger son with his homework. Then...DAD comes home. And it's all about NOT UPSETTING DAD. Whatever you do: don't upset Dad! Don't bring up any subject that Will Upset Dad! You have to see it.
I bought the boxed set of shorts for my college age son/daughter last Christmas. They and their friends thought there were hilarious. But, actually, they're very scary.

61. Yes, a local UHF Twin Cities station
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 01:54 AM by Book Lover
that later became a Christian fundamentalist station... I have some of those 0-season episodes; they did some there that they redid later, like Mighty Jack ("Ask not what your country can do for you...") and nearly all the Gamera movies (Did you know Gamera is full of meat? He's also really neat).

The KMTAs are not very strong in terms of funny, but it is fun to see Joel's long hair, the original bot designs, and the original theme song.

on edit: found the lyrics!

In the not-too-distant future--
Next Sunday, A.D.--
There was a guy named Joel,
Not too different than you or me.
He worked in a satellite loading bay,
Just polishing switches to pay his way;
He did his job well with a cheerful face,
But his bosses didn't like him
So they shot him into space.
We'll send him cheesy movies,
The worst ever made.
Joel says when you got lemons,
You make lemonade.
Now keep in mind he can't control
When the movies begin or end,
Because he used the extra parts
To make his robot friends!

Robot roll-call--
Cambot
Servo
Gypsy
Crow!

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
And other science facts,
Just repeat to yourself it's just a show,
I should really just relax
For Mystery Science Theater 3000!

This was probably one of the only shows in the history of television that got better and better as it progressed.

I love too many of them to name just one favorite. Contrary to the Joel-purists, I think the later Sci-Fi Channel episodes are among the best.

I Was a Teenage Werewolf - There was just some genius riffing in this one.

Prince of Space - Probably my favorite. It had all the elements for a great MST3K episode: great riffing, a movie that was sort of fun on its own, and entertaining host segments (this is the episode where they go through the wormhole and reality gets distorted in various ways, including Mike becoming a robot himself and the bridge of the SOL transforming into a wooded glen)

Time Chasers - This was just released not long ago in the fifth DVD set. It's a dorky film about a merry band of New Englanders who travel through time in a small plane. You have to love when they arrive in the post-apocalyptic future and Crow remarks that a Wal-Mart must be responsbile for the condition of the town.

As far as Joel episodes, I think Manos was tops, but egad, I recommend it only for MST3K veterans. It's not for the faint of heart.

Man, they really need to do a revival of this program. I still can't believe Comedy Central and then Sci-Fi had the gall to cancel it. Comedy Central desperatly needs something of this caliber again to take time away from their constant MadTV reruns.
