Post your favorite Haunted House movies here!!

I'm developing a fetish for movies about haunted houses. What are the best ones you've seen??

I have seen The Shining, Amityville Horror, and most recently "The Others". Looking for more suggestions.....

2. I love ships!

Can you tell me anything about "Ghost Ship"? When it came out?

The other things you mention are books??

4. Ghost ship came out last year I think
it was ok, but kind of cheesy.

The other 2 are movies ;) One's spanish and the other's chinese. But both are great, comparable to "the sixth sense"...ghost stories with brains.

9. The Opening Scene in Ghost Ship....
... You know the one I mean. It makes that whole turd of a movie worth it. I kept hoping for another amazing scene like that. The one with the hook was pretty cool, but that first scene... god. They should have kept whatever imaginative, sadistic MFers who came up with that idea and fired the rest of the scriptwriters.

11. 13 Ghosts
is worthwhile to watch because of the set design, and Tony Shalhoub. The DVD extra about all the ghosts and their backstories is more interesting and chilling than the movie, and none of that stuff made it onscreen!

3. The original
Haunting of Hill House. It's in black and white and is more psychological horror than gore. It's very scary.

The last sentence of the book, which is also the last lines in the movie is, "All are gone from Hill House now, and we who walk here walk alone." Gives me the chills just thinking about it.

6. The Legend of Hell House...

I haven't seen it for a long time, but it used to scare the crap out of me.

Cheers,

7. I second the original "The Haunting"
Still the best....Another good one is "The Legend of Hell House"...

Also worth checking out is the original "The Old Dark House" from 1932, directed by James Whale. The house is inhabited by a family of crazies rather than ghosts but its a classic and it has a great cast...Boris Karloff, Charles Laughton, melvyn Douglas, Gloria Stuart, Raymond Massey to name a few.

I think House 1 and 2 are cool every one after that is ugh

waxwork is cool ( wax work 2 is also good but not really in a house)

I guess Evil Dead and 2 would be considered haunted house/woods
( I hear there making and army of darkness 2 ) set in the future he came back to I guess it would be ash's present)

Poltergeist

I think that about covers it theres probably more.

14. Is Evil Dead gorey??

I'm not into gore, more the psychological stuff with ghosts, possessions, etc.

18. Its not so much
For gore lv most of its clay animation for evil dead 2, evil dead doesn't have much in it ( basically there the same movie just made at different times and a different budget)
For the most part its like dark comedy with a little gore heck the most evil force in the movie is just represented by the camera flying though the woods like you looking though its eyes. That makes it more suspenseful, trust me if you haven't seen evil dead watch it's a cult classic. then watch army of darkness ( Its ok but i still think evil dead is better :) but army of darkness has more humor. )

17. "House" scared the crap out of me, but I'm fairly confident I'm alone in
this opinion. Brought to us by at least one of the crapmeisters from Friday the 13th, and starring William Katt, Kay Lenz, Norm from Cheers and Bull from Night Court (oh all right, George Wendt and Richard Moll, but it would be ever so much simpler if they just legally changed their names as indicated above since that's what everyone calls them). In other words, the TV Graduates All-Non-Stars, but I still liked it.
