squash.

Here's a pic of my Rosebud, on the left, sharing some yummy Halloween squash with her cousin. I'm caring for my brother's two torties while he's moving. Rosebud's not wild about the company, but she's willing to share her holiday bounty.

2. I love watching turtles eat
They eat so slowly and respectfully, it's like they REALLY deserve the food.

9. not too big
they're only about 3 or 4 years old. I'd say Rosebud is about a foot long, her cousins slightly smaller.

10. One of the funniest things I ever saw was a tortoise eating a fruit salad
at the Belle Isle Zoo. He/she had a big hunk of melon on his/her head...right up top, but continued to eat methodically without a care in the world. For some reason, it struck me as funny.

Hi Dookus! :hi:

11. heheh
I adore watching Rosie eat. Tortoises seem to be both single-minded and simple-minded. I think the only thoughts in their head are "is there food? Am i eating it now?" interrupted every few years or so by "I oughtta fuck something".

13. beautiful; do they fight?
I always thought of turtles as being shy and skittish until my dog discovered one under the porch chair through the glass door. My schnauzer, a classic watchdog, was screaming and snarling, clawing at the glass till I dragged her away. The turtle just stared right back at her, cocking its head to the side thoughtfully. It didn't bat an eye. I walked outside and it came right up to me, let me lift it up, never even hiding in its shell. Those critters are fearless.

14. nah
when my brother's two first showed up, they knocked heads a little, but nothing serious. Now they all share the food and the heated "dogloo" they use at night.

I think Rosie's starting to like the company.
