Despondent communal gathering
This morning started very upbeat. It was the 1st day of rehearsal for the new show I'm working on. Much of the "meet & greet" included a short political message (pro-Kerry). I wore a Kerry sticker over each ass pocket on my jeans (given to me by a drag queen at the Greenwich Village Halloween parade) and my John Kerry is for Lovers t-shirt. I had the most popular outfit in the theatre company.

Later, I ended up watching the news with some coworkers at the local bar, rather heavily Republican bar (except for when we TAKE IT OVER IN FORCE, and I do mean in force). It was depressing and the bartender hated my shirt. I ended up at an election night house party held by some coworkers. It was great to be with like-minded people, but at the same time, I've never felt such despair in a group. Basically, everyone was just wondering how this happened and what country we could go to. If Bush gets "elected" we plan on heading to DC to protest in some fenced in area 25 miles away from the motorcade. Many cigarettes and bottles of wine were consumed. I'm just so depressed by the whole situation. What happened to America?

1. What happened ?
The majority decided to sell it's soul. For tax-cuts, and corporate benefits. For imagined religous morality over actual commandments. (abortion & gay marriage over lies & murder)

I weep for our country. This USED to be a great country.

2. Yeah...
I've been around Europe, and while I love Europe, I always came back like, "it was great, but I really would rather live here." Now I find myself thinking, "well, I have family in Ireland, and friends of the family in Spain...I was planning on going back to college, maybe I should go back to college in Canada..."

I'm in NJ, so we won our electoral votes here, no thanks to people like my mother. She voted for Bush because she "doesn't like the way Kerry speaks." My reaction was, "oh, you mean, proper English?" It just makes no sense for people like her to be Republican. She isn't rich, supports the environment, doesn't believe in gas guzzlers, owns 2 X chromosomes, I'm gay (and she's mostly ok with it now...better with other people being gay than me), etc. I just don't get it.

Fortunately, my younger sister (just about 17) has turned into a raging liberal. I'm glad to see that I've worn off on her. Actually, a lot of the deciding factor was my sexuality for her. She just doesn't understand how anyone can discriminate against gays and then paying attention to my rantings on Bush solidified her views. How my mom got us is beyond either of us...but it's the best for the future.

Eh, I'm just drunk and depressed right now though.
