I Saw 'Ray' Last Night
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 10:47 AM by Magic Rat
Very very good movie. Jamie Fox will win an Oscar for this performance.

But don't go see it if your butt tends to go numb after an hour and a half.

It's a two and a half hour movie.

Very long, but very very good.

The music is absolutely amazing. I used to think that Frank Sinatra had the best voice I'd ever heard. Now I'm thinking Ray Charles had the best voice.

Truth be told, both men were kinda pricks. But Charles had so much soul in his music. Frank was all talent. Charles was all heart.

Go see this movie, but bring a pillow to sit on!

1. Thanks for the report
:hi:

I heard that Jamie had to put on 30 pounds to play the role, and that he had his eyelids glued shut.

3. Thanks for the Critique
I plan on seeing the movie today. As a big RC fan I really looking forward to it. I'm happy for Foxx, he's such a talented young man. Did you know he's a classically trained pianist? In Living Color sure did launch the careers of a lot of talented super stars.

5. Frank is great. And so is Ray. But Nat "King" Cole has one of the most
beautiful voices for a pop singer I've ever heard. Don't forget about Nat.

6. funny you should say that
because the movie made a point to note how much Ray Charles tried to sound like Nat King Cole when he first started out.

Since he was blind, he basically mimicked everyone he heard and could do it flawlessly.

Hell, he did the three-part chorus of FEMALE voices on one track. Amazing.

They did leave out one detail that was alluded to - his adultery. Yeah, he had two mistresses in the movie and a child from one of them. But in real life, Ray Charles actually had as many as 12 kids out of wedlock.

He WAS a bad guy, but an amazing performer.

7. Who knew Jamie Foxx had it in him? I sure didn't. WOM on film is great.
Can't say WOM is great on another musical biopic on bobby darin starring Kevin Spacey. Heard its a clunker.
