Attack of the killer Ladybugs!

Anyone else's house being inundated by the little buggers? I've never seen so many of them in one place! I actually don't really mind them, but it is kind of creepy to have about a million or so of them crawling all over the outside of my house! The dog wouldn't even pee when I took her outside 'cause I think she was so scared of and/or fascinated by all of them.

Anyone know how long they'll be hanging around? (This is a new house for my husband and I, so it's our first experience with the ladybug army!) :-)

We're out in the sticks. We only moved about 10 miles from where we used to live (a more suburban area) and I do recall the ladybugs arriving there every year about this time...but I never saw them in numbers like what is going on on the outside of my house!

2. We had tons last year

I think they were technically not ladybugs - they were more of a brownish red instead of bright red. We had them all over, even inside the house. There were hundreds of them just in the windows of our unfinished attic.

Unfortunately they didn't go away until winter came. This year, they are back again but not nearly as many. I have taken to sucking them up with a vacuum cleaner whenever I see one inside the house.

4. You must be in the midwest

They are called asian beetles, and they were being used in the south to control aphids. Obviously, they are out of control. They are a permantent fixture, they will be here every year from now on.

5. We get them every October, especially on sunny days.

They are finding their places to live for the winter...most likely your siding.

These are probably the Asian lady beetles. They are bigger than ladybugs. Don't try to squash them. They stink!

But he hates them...says they bite and stink, just as some others who've responded seem to be saying. That's all news to me. I guess we'll see...:shrug:

in Indiana. They are not true "ladybugs" and can be hard to get rid of. If they get into your house... and they will try... you could be dealing with them year 'round.

10. Happened to me a couple of years ago

They were all over. I used to vacuum them up daily. Luckily, haven't had any yet this year.

years.

Many, many of them got into the house, because we had doors and windows open. Eventually, they died out.

Oddly enough, I have them now, in October. That is unusual. Not as many are in the house now, because we don't have the doors and windows open.

I am pissed that now I am going to have them twice a year, spring and fall.

12. It's just a hatch

I've seen that in the Ca forest. I thought it seemed sort of magical.

15. Damn Asian beetles are annoying.

They are in huge swarms up at my uncle's house (far north Chicago suburbs).

...and we are over run with the asian beetles (ladybug like) and box elder bugs.....I killed over 20 of them today inside my house.

They also bite...hard...the little buggers.
