On edit: 'kicking a thread' is posting a comment on it so it goes to the top of page one

3. "Kicking" a thread

When you view all the threads in a particular forum, they are listed in order of "most recently posted to".

So when you post a "kick," that puts that thread back at the top of the list.

You will encounter a lot more terms that are confusing. Don't hesitate to ask!

and are used in the subject line to indicate that there is nothing in the message, and hence no reason to click on it. (Some of us use ... to indicate there is more and you should read the message).

Kicking means to intentionally post with the intent to kick the thread to the top of the first page, since the lists are sorted in most-recently-posted-to order.

Sometimes we will use fake html tags as a joke, like </sarcasm> or (/sarcasm) which is an end tag in html and says that the words previous to the tag are sarcasmic in nature.
