Who else is relying on alcohol?
I haven't been able to sleep at all or more than an hour or so without it. I just don't have the peace of mind or feeling of security to relax unless I self-medicate. Going a few days while sleep deprived doesn't help your accuracy or focus. Being hung over doesn't lead to a good start on the day.

I volunteered as a precinct leader for moveonPAC and don't wan't to reduce my effectiveness.

Share your experiences and insight.

1. I can't handle it, so I don't drink. I sleep better without, anyway.

2. I don't drink.
I cannot and should not. I lost my shitty little job today, and now would be a good time for a drunk, but I won't.

The last 4 years have been a nightmare, economically. A real wake-up-screaming nightmare. But me and the wagon are surgically attached. In truth, right now, my sobriety is the only thing I have. I ain't giving that up.

6. Sorry you've had to go through this.
The last four years have been a nightmare for us all. I'm glad you can manage without the crutch. I just can't seem to relax and put my brain in neutral to find that sleep state.
I left my job by choice two years ago. Right now it's getting down to crunch time. If bush* steals this election, there's too much at stake. I've got my parents, nieces, sisters, friends, and the nation that I feel responsible to support. It doesn't matter how big my bank account is or how many hours I work to change things, the stress seems too much to handle.

Sorry to hear about the job loss and I can relate to the nightmare of the last four years. Keep us posted and if there is any way to help just ask.

3. Here's what I do, Watch Daily show just before sleep. Happy
thoughts, that helps. When stressed, Deep breath, exhale, then say very deliberately, President Kerry. I always feel better.

5. I've been forced to give up weed due to random tests at work,
so I have to have a couple of beers to unwind. I miss my canabis.

7. I take Valerian.
It is a really mellow herb (legal) that helps stop that bitching little voice in your head when you're trying to doze off. Just snuffs it out then you sleep like a log.

I've taken to consciously trying to direct good vibes to the Kerry camp over strong coffee every morning.

9. I can't drink. I'm on Xanax and Wellbutrin. Alcohol would not be a good
"mixer" with that, aside from some other meds I'm taking.

10. Alchohol really isn't that great of a sleep aid
there are other drugs that are much better, even if they aren't legal.

14. No drinks but can't sleep

Went to bed at 5 am woke up at 7 am Mon.

Wake up during the night to find out what's in the news.

Please Kerry win by a landslide, I can't keep this up.

16. Weed works well...
...but it's illegal, and some people have a hard time maintaining intelligence and focus when operating on fewer synapses. Practice helps, but you will probably still sound stupid to others. Also, it does tend to put a damper on your motivation.

17. You should try to back off a little
Don't obsess so much about something you cannot control. Life goes on, and a victory on 11/3 will be much sweeter if you are already in a better state of mind.

Immerse yourself in music. Rage Against The Machine works for me.

18. Tell MoveOn PAC
to shove it if they get too pushy.

I, too, "volunteered" as a precinct leader and they are really breathing down my neck. I work full time, have too small kids, a husband and a house (Plus, I'm a precinct delegate for real...). They really put the pressure on me, and my "counselor" or whatever she is is not what I would call Ms. Personality.
I'm doing the best I can.
Slow down, amble on and don't give way to the alcohol.
Although I don't drink (much), I gave up smoking 2 years ago, and BOY, COULD I USE A SMOKE!!!! About 90 times a day!
Pleasing MoveOn is not my goal.
Getting rid of Bush, whilst maintaining my sanity and my family is.
I feel your pain!
To Victory!
You can be sober and delirious at the same time. Hopefully on Nov. 3!!!

19. Extra Klonopin
Sometimes I throw in some alchohol too, but I've never really been much of a drinker. I'm still working on a small bottle of spiced rum that I got a few months ago.
