Poll question: How do you respond to a Bad Thread?
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 05:13 PM by yardwork
Suppose somebody has a bad day and posts an inflammatory thread. Or one of our little freeper friends pays a visit, dragging Newsmax in their fetid wake. Or maybe a newbie posts a duplicate link or puts something in the wrong forum.

How do you respond?

Acutally, I only hit alert
I don't hide threads, at least I haven't yet. It is interesting to go back and see if the thread was taken out, the person tombstoned.

3. Yeah, that's what I do too. Hit alert but not hide thread
I should have included that as an option.

6. I advise you to hit Alert but not Hide Thread
That way you can check back every few minutes to see if I've been tombstoned yet.

10. Nah. I forgive you.
We all put up a clunker from time to time.

But, seriously, I usually just ignore bad threads or try to post something humorous in them. On a rare occasion I will also highjack them talking about somthing that is totally irrelevant if I can find someone else who's willing to work with me.

11. Thank you. I actually had a serious reason for starting this thread.
I've noticed that "bad" threads often stay kicked, pushing important and interesting information off the front page.

By "bad thread," I mean anything that tends to distract or impede our primary purpose, which is getting Kerry elected to the White House.

5. I like starting a thread
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 05:17 PM by proud2Blib
to keep the original bad post on line.

I have dealt with threatening posts and other really negative thread starters that the original poster eventually deletes. Then they deny they ever posted it.

And this has happened on other boards, not here where everyone is nice and non threatening. :)

where are the two buttons - alert and hide thread?

8. The Alert button is at the bottom left of the post - see the red arrow?
I don't know where the "Hide Thread" feature is because I've never used it.

9. I post and read the board so
infrequently...I am not sure how to answer. Perhaps I should check in more often.

12. Define "bad thread" please... is this like Censorship of ...
some kind?

... bad as in "really poor ideas, choice of words, silliness"?

or....

... bad as in "breaking all rules of civilized behavior and/or DU"?

Read and ignore is my mantra.
I'm sure DUers do that with my threads.

13. See my original post, and post #11, for definitions of "bad thread"
Are trying to start a flame war, or just calling me out? ;-)

16. i am a mocker
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 05:37 PM by mlle_chatte
I like nothing better than to mock a troll.
I don't like the fighting-so i TRY not to fight with people, but it has been known to happen. Again at some point I will turn to mockery ("Thank you for pointing that out! :)") I like the smiley face at the end of a good mock. It seems to me to underline how stupid I think the poster's opinion is.

Last night, I used :eyes: on corsair, an ass who was trolling the lounge. He put up a long diatribe against Jane Fonda in another forum (I love assholes who claim to have fought for our freedoms, then get all pissed off and shit when people actually USE THEM). He was fun, easy to mock, because he seemed to think he was mocking US with copy and paste. Brain damage I guess :eyes:.
anyway I'll do the alert thing on trollish types (corsairs sig line was "Viet Nam Vets Against Kerry"-somewhat obvious), but I may keep going back to the thread. It's a mood thing. I wish corsair'd been able to stupidly respond to some of my later commentary! :D
dupes, I don't give a shit. wrong forum-not that pedantic. I hide only the sports stuff and threads by people i don't care for.
