Names for newborn sons: How many would use Adolf, Fredo, or George?
Adolf and Fredo are no brainers. But George is a different story. Republicans won't hesitate to use it. But, how about Democrats? Would you name your newborn George? Or has Dubya put it in the same league as Adolf and Fredo?

1. I wouldn't name my kid George
But not because of Bush. I just like other names better. I don't think Bush is on the same level as a Hitler, but he's definitely a bad dude. Not bad enough though to tarnish the name George, though.

13. I meant that politics would never influence my choice of names--
too many names would be off limits.

15. Okay, candy, I understand. But in all honesty, would you ever name
a kid Adolf or Fredo? Nazi Germany made the name Adolf hated, and "The Godfather" branded the name Fredo as a weak, and ineffectual person.

There are millions of George's out there and the point I was trying to make is that Bush, especially if he wins or steals it again, will, at best, make the name George a joke, and at worst, make it hated.

Jeeeez, we really need Kerry to win big.

23.  Sure I would. There was a great old actor called Adolph Menjou, and
don't forget the famed songwriters,Comden and Green(he was Adolph Green) and how about Adolph Coors?

Good and bad with all names.

4. It's an ok name, but not right now!
It's ruined until memories of both Bushes fade. Of course, people who have this name in their families and like to pass it down will have a hard time avoiding it. And there ARE some good Georges to think of instead of them... I just can't think of any right now. :)

5. IF...
George was a traditional name in my family, and IF a elderly family member promised me money for using that name, I'd consider it.
I could always say he was named after G. Washington. Make his middle name Cincinatus (G. Washington's nickname/title) to drive the point home.

14. Wow
I called a support line once. When the young man on the other end said his name was Elvis, I knew at once I had reached a call center in India, and that this fellow's given name was anything but Elvis.

18. George is a family name for me
A lot of close members of my family (as well as many extended members) are named George. I'm not sure about the extended family, but my family is very liberal.

Sometimes it's not all in a name ...

:hi:

21. Maybe not, but how many Germans are naming their kids Adolf?
Edited on Sat Oct-23-04 04:22 PM by Cyrano
And how many Italians are naming their kids Fredo?

Okay, maybe I'm being a bit facetious here, but don't you think that if Bush gets another four years, only right-wing lunatics would name their sons George?
