Language rant ahoy - Misuse of the word 'disgusting'.

So, Kelley, the hot-but-she-knows-it-and-god-does-she-know-it girl in the office is looking out the window at a typically Calgarian mushy fall day, and retorts 'Oh my God! The weather is disgusting!'. Meanwhile, Bev, the older bitch of the office is whining by the coffee machine 'the coffee in this office is just disgusting!'. Joe, the guy next to me says 'the market is just disgusting today'.
Later, on the news, some veterans comment on the new Canadian quarter that has a red poppy in the centre (here, the poppy is a symbol representing the dead of World War I and, in a wider context, all war). Apparently, the colour rubs off the poppy. Veteran #1 is angry 'it's an insult to the dead!'. Veteran #2 pitches in 'it's disgusting!'.

Its not disgusting. Its -
a) poor fall weather
b) sub-standard coffee
c) the vagaries of market capitalism
d) a few thousand defective coins out of several million

Look people. War is disgusting. The holocaust was disgusting. Decaying corpses are probably pretty disgusting. The small obstacles you encounter in your working day are not disgusting. Get it?

See, I've been working on this scheme to acquire large numbers of Canadian quarters for about 20 cents(US) each, pass them off as US quarters to the unwitting cashier at the 7-11, and roll in the savings when I buy coffee and a paper for $1.60 instead of $2.

It's not gonna work if the quarters are a different color!
