14. My picks:
Moonsorrow - Voimasta ja Kunniasta

Or perhaps Falkenbach - Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty

or even maybe Tyr - Eric the Red

All great 'deep thought' albums.

19. Viking/folk music, more detailed explanation inside:
All 3 bands I mentioned are rooted in the european rock/metal mode, themed with a norse lyrical slant, and in the case of Falkenbach and Moonsorrow they sing in their native tongue (probably Swedish, but I don't speak any of those so I don't know for sure) and Tyr sings in Faroese. (as they are from the Faroe Islands)

Moonsorrow has big epic riffs with folk instruments like accordian, lute, panpipes, and some specialized nordic folk instruments.

Falkenbach does a lot of panpipes with choir chanting, acoustic guitar, and folk passages. Very, very immersive music. Ok Nefna Tysvar Ty is an album almost ANYONE can enjoy, whereas Moonsorrow can be very intimidating if you've never heard anything like this before.

Tyr does bombastic and powerful viking metal in a war and battle sort of way, with folk songs and tales of glory and ancient lands. Stirring, moving, and always inspiring, without ever being overdone or annoying. VERY powerful band. Eric the Red is one of a kind.

I'm really into the european metal scene, because they've got music coming out of there that surpasses the best popular culture stuff released anywhere else in the world, ever. And I mean that. After I discovered this stuff it was like a whole new world opened up, and the American scene is so dead for it because the labels keep consolidating their power to fewer and fewer bands as they try to blame piracy for their declining sales.

This genre is the future of rock right here, and Americans are finally catching on. I've introduced dozens of people in the past year, and I've yet to meet a single person who doesn't find at least a few bands they go absolutely crazy over.

Email me if you want to know more, I've been into this scene for a few years as a critic and commentator. This, along with politics, is my passion.

John Denver: A Portrait. What a beautiful man, what beautiful lyrics. I was lucky enough to work on his tv show in L.A. and he was just a really great guy - one of the only times I've actually cried when a celebrity died. I loved him.

I have two......
Joni Mitchell - "Court and Spark" and James Taylor - "Gorilla"

I was living in an apartment in Schwetzingen, Germany (about 14 kms outside of Heidelberg). I was in the Army (AARGG!!). They gave me rations and quarters (money) to live on the "economy", because I complained so much about the crowded barracks (it was the US Army HQ's in Europe, and we were very spoiled).

I just about wore those two albums down to the bone. I still have them about ten feet away me; though I did upgrade to the CD versions. It was fun. I would go out some Saturday afternoon, pick up a nice bottle of good German white wine, some Camembert cheese, go back to my apartment, sit back and relax to Joni and JT.

:-)

And while almost every one of my 500 plus vinal albums have nostalgia value,i guess to tune it all out, think romantically, and drift,I'd have to put on Leonard Cohen,Songs of Love and Hate. In fact I just put it on. Do not dress in those rags for me when I know that you are not poor.
