They were small when I worked for them in 2000-2001! Back in '90?

I was with them their final year of existence, and was a Client Accounting Analyst, working the WA Mutual and USAirways accounts. It was the best job I ever had, and we were a family there. No Dilbert-style politics or crap. Paid well, good benefits. When it came to an end on September 24, 2001, it was maybe the most crushing day of my life. I have only begin to feel normal again in the past few months.

We were still small at the end (yes, it was 9-11 related, investor panic and ad cancellations killed our growth), maybe 150 employees, with sales offices in NYC, LA, and Chicago.

What is funny is that I may have never registered on DU if that hadn't happened. I surfed DU at work, no one monitored our surfing, and kept considering joining, lol. I finally did one bleak morning in early October, when it just felt right.

Took my fantastic skills from the Daily over there to make barely more than minimum wage. Those were the days.

They even paid the proofers better. It was the booming Clinton years! They started proofers at $10.00/hr. I am sure it was WAY different then in '90. The work was more web-based by the time I was there, and we had exclusive contracts with major papers like the NYT.

Two weeks ago, I would have said the same thing about the Australian election. The polls were looking good for getting rid of PM Howard and I was tired of all the waiting and the countdown to the election -I just wanted to bring on the election

Now, against the odds, PM Howard has secured a landslide majority and the government has gained control of the Senate for the first time in over 20 years. I spend all my time now wishing I could just turn back the clock to the weeks before the election day

Mind you, if anyone wanted to cryogenically freeze me until both * and Howard are gone, I'd have no objections

It's funny -I used to enjoy election campaigns both in Australia and in the US. Now I dread them both
