I hate how Hollywood makes a movie and everyone in New Orleans has a southern accent. I'm offended that they would think I talk like an Appalachian.

I hate that, it's annoying, like I don't speak with a southern accent, I even say some stuff that a northerner may say.

7. Hey Ive got PA in me too

My great-grandfather and grandfather came down from the Pennsylvania Dutch region. Supposedly they both spoke German around the house.

but really my family has only been here since the 50's, dad's dad worked for the NLRB so they lived in Detroit, Pittsburgh, Denver, St. Louis, before settling down in Arlington, Virginia. My mom's parents came down right after they married because my grandfather had no desire to be a coal miner or a steelworker, and instead became a bricklayer which IMO has helped him live a longer life despite his use of tobacco and alcohol and overall stress, still fightin on at 75 he is.

I've had 2 of them for a few years and except for some slobber and an occasional "accident" they seem to be doing fine.

I am from Louisville.

Q: Is that the first pair of shoes you've ever owned?
A: Knee-slapping fake laughter.

Q: Are your parents related?
A: Yeah, they're married.

Q: So you're getting a dog. Did you need a date Friday nite?
A: If I wanted to date a dog, I'd go out with you. Also followed up with a trip to the manager to complain.

Seems like I am missing one.

8. I was once told I speak with a midwestern accent.

But I don't beleive them. The more I drink, the more southern I sound.

I'm from the Midwest; currently residing in the South. It took me awhile to figure it out, but I finally learned that, "bless yur lil' heart", is Southspeak for "I truly detest you".

I've got a cousin in Panama City, who is originally from Minnesota (like me). They're right in the middle of the "redneck riviera" as they call it.

Even if you look at a map, that whole panhandle is really just southern Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia (or "Jawja" as they say down there).

And I thought our rednecks in the north woods were scary...

You never, ever, ever say "y'all" to just one person, unless you are referring to a group to which s/he belongs.
