Your Favorite Band You Discovered By "Accident"
Me: the Dirty Three.

Found them when I was looking for some Nick Cave rarities on gnutella and came across "Zero is also a number." Said to myself: DAMN! Who's playing that fiddle?

Downloaded a couple of their tunes then went out and bought Horse Stories - and I hope the legal departments at the RIAA labels get to see this post. Fuck you, darlings.

6. Hey, same with me
and then they "accidentally" led me to Yo La Tengo, and from there the VU guitar bands flowed from the woodwork.

In a local 'zine once; a take off on the "this is your brain on drugs" ads. Decided right then and there I liked 'em.

16. I am pretty sure they broke up after Time For A Witness
Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 09:56 PM by lunabush
Did a big tour and that after the tour was about that. The drummer went on to be in Luna, the Galaxie 500 followup. The Bass player had a few lps with a band called Spped the Plough - great stuff. One of the guitar players got out of music - the rumour used to be he was a locksmith for Disneyworld.

Two of the players went on to form Wake Ooloo, living in Chicgo. Couple of nice Lps.

Edited on Thu Oct-07-04 10:31 PM by indigobusiness
loved that phoned in from the Twilight Zone sound.

Luna grew weak from what I heard. Did they ever pump it back up?

I remember Speed the Plough.
on edit- But I don't rember actually hearing it. This was something I intended to check out, I think. My memory banks are failing me...back in the day, I stumbled across a trade magazine that plugged me into alot of stuff at once and fogged my circuits.

Wake Ooloo, huh? Thanks, I'll check that out.

I can understand why 'Time for a Witness' would be a band's swan song...it would be hard to top.

I got a Knapsack song on a cd I got when I bought a pair of shoes.

They turned out to be one of my favorite bands.

Back when they were on Grass, so were The Wrens (who I was obsessed with). I thought I'd check out a Grass sampler and was bloooown awaaaay by "Smack Bunny Baby." Great lost, late band (RIP Timmy Thomas).

Smadj und Mehdi happened to drop in for a beer in the basement with their ouds. Fortunately the bar stool I draped myself over was tall enough that my chin was only slightly bruised as my jaw dropped. :wow:

22. I could not stand
"Lost in the supermarket" I was nails on a blackboard for me....then one day the groovy radio station said "hey! we have a couple of new album in from the clash it's a three record set-we'll be playing it in it's entirety"-it was the one album version-They started playing it before i could turn it off and i thought "Fuck-these guys-fuck! what have I been missing?"
I had friends that worked in the record biz and i got some rare shit off them-everyone pretty much knew how I felt about the cLash after Sandanista. I own pretty much all the clash i can find.

BTW "Lost in the supermarket"-nearly my rtheme song :P

23. Lost in the Supermarket?? I won't even go into how you heard that
first! If anything, people relate the Clash to Rock the Casbah or Should I Stay or Should I Go. I got into the Clash because I was a huge Who fan and Pete Townshend said, "Hey, there's this really great band you should check out..." I was totally hooked from the beginning. Their sound is still very fresh today and I like them a little bit (in case you couldn't tell). I don't care how you got there, as long as you did...

27. The Talking Heads.....
I was a teenager then... going thru discounted albums at the Mall Music Store and came across "More Music About Buildings and Food".

The cover and the title caught my attention...I thought, why not?

They turned out to be one of my all time Favorite bands.

Similar thing. Saw the cool album title, Fear of Music and brought it home. My older brother threatened to beat me up if I didn't take that "punk shit" off his stereo.

It was 1980. Read a Rolling Stone review of their album, went out and bought it. Promptly played it till the grooves wore through.
