Man...how do you get the log in to "take"??????
If there is one thing on DU I can't figure out is why the log-in takes umpteen log-ins before it will hold your log-in info.

I belong to several other forums which use the DC Script forms. Some are newer versions than DU some are older but they all work on the log-in first time every time. Like a dummy I was cleaning house on my computer the other day and deleted all cookies.

I've now logged in on DU at least 20-30 times in every configuration I can think of and with cookies set at the lowest to accept all cookies. Nope, still have to do the log-in every time.

Then, what will happen is mysteriously out of the blue your name will show up on the right top as being logged in. I can't figure it out....

1. It all comes down to what you do while logging in
Not on your PC, though. At your PC. You have to do the ceremonial DU prayer/dance/meditation.

You will need some onions and 3 live squirrels...

6. Ohhhh,you need a Yak?? Hell,no wonder it won't work then....
I must have missed that somewhere on the DU site. Well off to E-Bay,there has to be a used Yak on there somewhere.

4. Could you please be more specific?
This is the first time I have heard someone articulate this problem, but it sounds like you may not be the only one experiencing it. We consider this a very serious problem and want to fix it asap.

Could you please be more specific? Tell us exactly what you do, and what response you get from our website.

Are you saying that you have to log in to DU 20 or 30 times EVERY time you visit the website in order to get logged in? Or do you have to log in only once each time you visit?

Also, shat web browser are you using?

5. Nope,just have to log in once per vist...
But I have to log in 20-30 times to get to where I don't have to log in. Thank God for the automatic user name/password in IE so I don't have to physically type it in each time. I'm using the latest version of IE.

If I have deleted cookies or re-installed Win XP I have to log-in to DU each and every time I visit for at least 20-30 sessions before my user name shows up at the right top as being logged in. If I stay in IE but go to different sites and then back to DU my log in will hold--it must be cached somewhere.

If I close IE and start back up I have to log in once again on DU. I tried about every trick possible to make this work on the first or second try, moving the cookie bar as low as possible, logging in then out then coming back to DU. Same story, takes a lot of logging in before it "takes"

LOL--Guess what, after griping about it in this post it now works,I don't have to log in. This is weird, especially like I said I frequent many other DC script sites and the log in works first time every time.

If you guys come up with something I'd be glad to be the beta tester for it and see if it'll work. Other than that login nuisance DU is one fantastic site, thanks for your concern.

7. Do you use the "expanded/collapsed threads" mode?
We recently identified a bug related to the expanded/collapsed thread function which causes the log-outs for IE users.

I think this may be what is causing you to get logged out.

To clarify: I'm assuming that when you say "I have to log in 20-30 times to get where I don't have to log in" you mean "when you return to DU after leaving." You are clicking the checkbox that says "remain logged in" but you're not remaining logged in when you return. Am I correct in this interpretation?

Yep,thats it...but like I said if I leave DU,cruise other sites and come back to DU without shutting IE down then I'll still be logged in--maybe the log in is just being cached in IE until shut down.

Its only when I completely exit IE(or when I start up new in the morning/evening),and click on DU that I have the log on problems. Yes,I use the "remain logged in" box but I've also tried it without just to see if the login would take but it doesn't. Once the log in takes then yes the "remain logged in" box is always checked as it is now. I've also tried the logging in,then logging out the logging back in route, that doesn't work either.

The log in only takes after numerous times of clicking on DU on my Links bar and logging in. I don't have an exact number but I bet its at least 20,maybe more.

Yes,I always use the expanded threads, unless its been shut off like it was last Thursday night during the debate. I also use expanded threads on other DC Script forums although their DC version is a bit different than this one. I think one is slightly newer and one is older.

On edit one thing to add...Once the log in takes and my user name shows in the upper right corner it always works,I never have to log in again from that point on unless I delete cookies.

9. I had that problem with Firefox
the Mozilla and AOHell browsers were not a problem...and every once in a blue moon, I would not be logged out on Firefox, after shutting the browser down and restarting.

I finally tracked it down to a cookie management error on my part. On one occasion I had "allowed for session" instead of 'allowed', even though I had 'allowed for all cookies' from this site. I had 2 extra DU cookies that were messing with stuff. So I fixed it, but it took having 3 browsers to spot the anomolies. :) (And the IE cookies (AOHell) were useless, really.)
