It is early yet. We had a bad start last year. In the words of our Great and Fearless (heehee) Leader of the Free World..."We will preserve". :hi:

8. Mine totally sucked.
One of our students was killed in a car wreck over the weekend. This was the first day back and the kids had a really hard time. We all did.

One of my classes became so emotional I called the school social worker to come visit so she and the school psychologist showed up and talked to them for a while. It's hard all around.

14. I have an idea for your class
Since I'm a writer and I like to be creative and artisitic

I think you should give your class a project.

Have them write, draw, mold, paint
either
1. A memory an experience they had about/with your fallen student
or
2. Have them using their artistic ability write, draw, etc. how they are feeling about the situation.

The kids need a place to vent their rage, anger, sadness and I think if they can share as a group than as a group they can help heal.

Please take care of yourself.

I know how hard this is to go through.

I think teachers are so important and it's great to see you get really involved in your work.

I use to be a counselor at an after-school program for kids aged 5-12 and when I was at work, they were like MY kids. Even after I left worked I thought about those kids at times if I knew one of the kids was having a bad day, etc...

10. and I thought I was the only one having a crappy day
. . . so I've had this sinus/ear infection thing going on for two months and I've been to three different ear/nose/throat doctors who have all told me that there nothing is wrong with me (okay, there is something wrong with me when I'm so congested that I can't hear out of one ear). The one I saw today basically implied that I'm a hypochondriac. In a very patronizing tone he told me to reduce my stress and caffeine intake. :wtf: I wanted to shove his tongue depressor straight up his ass.

No hot water, and I couldn't get the pilot on the gas water heater to stay lit. Had to call a plumber, who replaced the thermocouple, to the tune of $150.00. Those kinds of things aren't needed when the source of your income is unemployment compensation.

Got a little better, though, when I sent out my 4th resume in 1 week's time. Maybe one of them will work. Three of them were sent to 3 different Commonwealth of MA agencies, and I am pretty well qualified for each. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

Now, I am getting my fill of The West Wing. They do "Monday Marathons" starting today. 7:00 PM to midnight. I love that show...(chauvenistic as it may be at times.) The day is looking up! :D

Academics. Some of them are technophobes. And I don't want to hear that he or she was in the hospital. I want an e-mail, dammit, even if you have to type it out in a goddamn iron lung!:D

25. Not bad at all
Our stupid "enterprise" web publishing/content management system is FINALLY fixed (after two weeks of hacking and/or phone calls to tech support), I FINALLY got the software I need to do my job properly (2+ months after I started the job), and the boss left me alone.

Ah the joys of government work. But at least it pays the bills.

29. write report. make phone call. repeat. Leave messages that are
not returned. Ponder why insurance comps. are such a pain in the ass. Heave pile of NYTs around so that floor can be seen. Take carpets to cleaners. Ponder invoices that are unpaid and be glad husband makes more money than me and can bake really good scones. Buy p. butter. Pick up child. Have child do homework. Hear loud blasting noises from said child's computer. Lie on couch. Swear at * commercial and concomitant lies.

hey you asked. :)

30. My day was FAN fucking TASTIC
I took the GRE this morning and scored 700 verbal and 620 analytical, blowing away all my previous practice test records.

Then I found out my bill consolidation loan came through with lower payments AND interest than I expected!

The IRS MADE A MISTAKE on my audit and now it's looking a LOT better on that! Plus I don't find out what I owe until Jan or Feb.

And I made my last van payment.

How was your day heyhey? How's the igloo?

Got lots of sleep and did some major posting on DU.

Sad thing is, the office is waiting for me tomorrow morning! Won't be so bad after I get there, settle in, etc.

33. It was great, until I watched the news
and saw how Bush is now signing tax cuts, yet another ploy to garner sympthetic vote-getters.

Really now, he's feeling like a failure because he was absolutely miserable during the debate.

34. My day was OK until my PC locked up
and I lost 2 hours of work. Then I had this weird little series of shooting pains in my left temple and wondered if I was having an aneurism. Then my son showed up at my office with two of these dopey guns that shoot little yellow plastic BBs. Airsoft, they're called - but those little yellow things are not soft. I spent a good portion of my evening complaining about these things being in my space until he finally took me seriously and removed them.

Maybe I'll have an aneurism tomorrow.
