Hot water in the toilets?

I was just informed that we have hot water in our toilets here at work. That seems like a pretty weird development in and of itself, but here's what's puzzling me: How do they know? How did they find out? Should I ask them? Or is this something I would rather not know?

6. Hooked up wrong.

Toilet supply water should be cold unless you like paying energy bills for nothing.

People occasionally hook up a toilet supply line to the hot water by mistake.

7. We did this once to a neighboring dorm...

We found a way into the piping space under the dorm, and found that the hot and cold system were cross-connected with a set of valves such that either could be routed in the other's stead. The next day, the people in that dorm had a bit of a surprise when they flushed...
