I'm dreading the holidays this year
I know it's only October, but when you are in retail, the holiday season looms now. And my birthday is two days after Christmas; it just all happens at once.

Although my late husband and I had a pretty lousy marriage in recent years, we loved cooking together and Thanksgiving has long been my favorite holiday. We always made the best turkey, if I do say so myself.

I have a very small family; it's just my parents and me now. The holiday season just seems to magnify all the weird feelings I have about everything that happened this year. I'm hoping that this is my last holiday in retail. I start school on January 4. Maybe I can enjoy the holidays in 2005 if I don't have to work seven days a week. :D

Luckily, my life recently went on a dramatic upswing, so that makes me very happy. Thanks to the wonderful person who brings so much joy to my life :loveya:

I'll just be glad when this damn year is over... :grr:

2. I'm glad I could provide you so much joy
;-)

Hang in there....maybe you want to just go out with the folks on Thanksgiving or go serve people at a homeless shelter...you know...doing something you might not ordinarily do to give the holiday new meaning...I find that when I might really get upset with my circumstances serving someone else does help.

3. You have brought me much joy
As well as an ever-present shoulder, which I always appreciate!

I was thinking of going to a shelter to serve on Thanksgiving. That would be a good thing to do.

6. Sorry...
I dread the holidays every year.

Ack! A messy swirl of memories, the funk of being without a partner & the pain of having to work 7 days a week just to make ends meet.

I usually spend Christmas day working because families rent the restaurant out for private parties.

I like Halloween, but after that it's all downhill.

You are not alone, you'll get thru it :hi:

13. I love his ritual
Extends that arm, touches it by extending the other... he is the essence of cool.

Even in the 97 degree desert heat last March, he exuded coolness. B-)

15. I don't like the holidays either
well actually I do like Halloween and Thanksgiving has always been my favorite, being a transplanted Pilgrim and all...I don't like Christmas all that much it's just a guilt induced buying spree for me...

That said, I hope you do ok through it all and I am very happy your life has gone on a dramatic upswing! ;) Things are looking up for ya babe!
Honestly, you were my first friend on the DU and for that I am indebted...Anybody who likes the Wipers, the Fall , and the Monks is about as cool as can be!

17. I have enjoyed ignoring the holidays for years now
When I still worked in retail it was hard to ignore. I have not really shopped that much in 15 years, since I quit Nordstrom. And I seem to recall that you wn you business. So I think it might be extra funky.

But in these times, working with the public can be really tough. There are years when the holiday public are all 'It's A Wonderful Life'; other years when they are all 'Scrooge', without the happy ending. I hope the public is the former for you this year.

And some years

It sounds like there may be at least 1 person around to brighten the holidays.:).

And I can't imagine working at Nordstrom during the holidays. My store is so little, and even that is totally crazy.
