After the initial gusts and power outage, it became a non-event. Power was back on by mid-night, and we only got 4.5-inches of rain. As I anticipated, I was protected by a ridge line to the north, north-east, and east. What killed us during Ivan were the wide open up-slopes on the south, south-west, and west-south-west sides. That was where the storm winds and tornadoes came 10 days ago.
But "Jeanne" could not have been as bad on the up-slope side and the rest of Transylvania County, or I would not have had power restored so early.
Today was weird. It was clear and calm here at my mountain house. My Weather Bug on the computer chirped all day with high-wind warnings for Transylvania County. By late morning it sounded like a fire-fight on the high ridge behind my house. It was limbs snapping, maybe Ivan-weakened limbs (who knows), in the high winds just a few hundred feet above my house. However, I never lost power during all of that popping today.
