I got THE call from Ireland
I often wondered why DU-ers did this. Now I know.

My Dad (85) fell, broke his collar bone - no stroke.
This is a guy who, until last year, was playing golf, rode a bike, no TV, listened to opera all the time.

I knew it would come.

Worst thing when I talked to his doctor was that he hadn't been taking care of himself hygienically. That broke my heart. This is a man who wears a tie for breakfast every day.

So I'm going home in a day or two. I plan to be there for as long as it takes.

Thanks

3. So very sorry...
I went through this with my Mom a few years ago and it's extremely hard.

Be sure to get some support - either from a group or hospice - they helped me so much.

Peace to you and your family.

6. Best wishes to you and your family
And don't let your Dad sleep in a bed, a recliner only. I've had two broken collarbones, and if you sleep in a bed, you could roll over onto the damaged side and rebreak the bone. Thus a recliner, it prevents rolling in your sleep.

I hope you get things worked out, best of luck.

7. Take care of yourself, too....my thoughts are with your family.
It is very easy to forget about yourself when things like this happen...don't forget to eat and sleep.
Best wishes to all of you.

So much emotion.

Calling ex-wives and so on.
They love him.

BTW he was a card carrying member of the Communist Party. Thought that would cheer you up. I was handing out fliers in Belfast during the Cuban Missile crisis. 1961 - I was 16

Best line from then:

"Are you a Protestant or a Catholic Communist?"

You had to answer correctly or you got a 'Belfast Handshake'.

9. "Belfast Handshake"?
Is that something like "Irish Confetti"?

He told me he was in tears after a speech Bill Clinton gave in Belfast about 5 yrs ago. Quarter of a million people attended.

This from an old cynic.
