Are "the Simpsions" Republicans?
Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 01:18 PM by gyopsy
I've always wondered. The supported Krusty the Clown for Senator (and he was running under a Republican ticket) but at the same time, they just don't seem so conservative to me.
We know Mr. Burns is a Republican.

On Edit: we know the writers of the show are liberal and really intelligent, so does it seem likely that their characters would be conservative?

1. Ask Rupert Murdoch
Also note that Quimby is a Democrat as Repuke Sideshow Bob ran against him...

6. That's true
And as the writers are really liberal, it seems likely that their show's idiot star, Homer, would be a Republican and you have to admit that Homer does posses a lot of repuke personality traits.

8. The Simpsons constantly deride
Republicans, their values, their stupidity. And they actually do it by presenting a loving traditional family.

Best single one-liner as far as I'm concerned involves Bart, in response to George Bush senior's comment in his State of the Union address in January, 1992, that families should be more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons. Bart says, "Hey, we're just like the Waltons. We're praying for an end to the depressio, too!"

3. They supported Krusty despite him being a repuke
In fact a point was made of that. Though it was made by Lisa who is a known liberal.

4. No, they bash Fox too much
My wife works at Fox (not news, thank God) and the Simpsons has no conservative agenda whatsoever. Why do you think they chose Krusty?

5. It's pretty obvious that Homer is swayed by simpleminded Patriotism...
..and jingoism, but it's also pretty obvious that he doesn't vote, so it's all good.

Marge, on the other hand, is a progressive (voted for Mary Bailey as opposed to Mr. Burns), quit the police force due to its massive corruption, and has pretty Liberal views on most things.

Lisa? Don't even have to ask.

Bart? Bart's a Libertarian if there ever was one.

Maggie? Well, she's been exposed to the Ayn Rand philosophy at a very young age, and she likes her handguns, but I'd say she's a Progressive, just because Mom is.

Grandpa admits voting for Lyndon LaRouche.

Santa's Little Helper? Bark bark, woof woof bark.

Snowball II? Libertarian.

10. I would have thought that Homer's comments...
...when he was taking medical marijuna would have settled this.

I could blow smoke in the president's stupid monkey face and all he could do is groove on it!
