Poll question: Chomsky vs. Dean vs. Clark
so who'd want as President here?

I vote for Chomsky just because he'd get rid of all the Freepers. They'd either move or have heart attacks.

3. Why do you despise Chomsky?
Any reasons or have you been conditioned to?

6. Conditioned -- Or Shampooed?
Actually, I'd like to hear why Chomsky is despised.

I don't dispise him, but I don't agree with him on everything, either.

I do find that most people either worship him with a religious fervor, or hate him as they would hate the devil.

8. Ok, I hate him...
...but not as I would the devil, but rather as I would have god, had it existed (had the devil existed I'd have worshipped it for trying to free humanity from religion).

7. Define "conditioned"
There are many reasnos:

- The "they're brainwashed" argument, which is a tautology.
- The Holocaust denial.
- The comparison between the 9/11 attacks and anti-Nazi raids during WW2, and the glorification of the 3rd worst terrorist attack in history.
- The contradiction between caring for motive when the US has a questionable motive but noble actions and caring for actions when the US has noble motives but not-so-good results.
- The anti-Semitism in general ("Jews don't deserve a second homeland because they already have New York").
- The political crank attitude.

12. Zionist?
Don't make me die laughing. Chomsky has made many blatantly anti-Israeli and anti-Jewish remarks (spin this: "Jews don't deserve a second homeland <Israel>, because they already have New York, with a... Jewish-run media... Jewish mayor <and more I don't remember>").

9. Despise is a harsh word!
I mean, philosophically we're on the opposite sides of the spectrum. But I don't despise you.

But if it makes you feel any better, I despise Bush.

13. Well, there're a lot of people whom I seldom agree with...
...but don't despise. Zinn comes to mind; I think he's a paranoid, but I don't despise him. AIPAC, too, with their "Israel is more democratic than Palestine so it's okay for Israel to kill Palestinian civilians" - I don't despise them, just think they're illogical.

I reserve the term despise to people who commit mass murder, deny the holocaust, support active physical suppression of dissent (e.g. Ann Colt.45er), or so on.

11. chomsky quote

"Democracy requires dissolution of private power. As long as there is private control over the economic system, talk about democracy is a joke. You can't even talk about democracy until you have democratic control of industry, commerce, banking, everything..."

14. Oh yeah...
:puke:... socialists and their inability to separate things that have barely any connection. Democracy, in case Noam "the Holocaust is fantasy" Chomsky forgot, is a political system, not an economic one. Further, liberal democracy makes a clear distinction between the public sphere, which should be under public control, and the private sphere, in which it is far more libertarian and less collective or democratic.
