1. What a corker of a game.
I can't believe Florida State blew it again. If anything, the game is another indictment of the futility of the prevent defense. If there's any time to blitz and put pressure on a QB, it's when he has to make every throw count.

4. Congrats, trumad
That was one hell of a victory tonight.

Doubt if the Fins can duplicate the performance tomorrow.

BEAT MIAMI! They didn't believe me. I was solid, though. I KNEW Miami would win. It's a given. I don't care what sort of weird shit has to transpire, Miami WILL win that game. I think they would have been willing to put some cash on the line, especially in the fourth quarter, but they're family. In the long run, my money is their money and vice-versa anyway. They know I was right, though, and that beats the shit out of money any day of the week.

Don't get me wrong, unless both FSU and UM can lose, I'm not entirely happy. But I am happy at being right in this case. Bowden is an asshole, and I can't muster the hatred I used to have for Miami anymore. I blame trumad for that. (And my beloved Buckeyes beating them in the MNC Game doesn't hurt, either!)

6. Just got back from the game, and that ending was AWESOME!!!
Edited on Sat Sep-11-04 02:23 AM by AwsieDooger
Parked over the bridge from the Orange Bowl and loved every step on the way
back, ecstatic 'Canes fans chanting "C-A-N-E-S, 'Canes!" and "We've got some
'Canes over here, whoosh, whoosh." I got a ticket thru my Nole alum sister and
sat in the upper deck among FSU fans. Have to say the FSU faithful were
very classy, never rubbing it end during their apparent victory march and just
sitting there stunned at game's end, no bitter emotional outbursts or
fightpicking.

Awesome defense, especially down 10-0 and knowing virtually anything else
would cinch it for FSU. The new LBs came through bigtime and Orien Harris and
Antrel Rolle are true stars. That blocked field goal was one of the most clutch
defensive plays in years. We were finished without it.

Still, Brock Berlin remains the regulator of this team, again puting up ONE OFFENSIVE TD during regulation. That was my only glimmer during all the failed drives in FSU territory -- Brock is usually good for one TD, not zero. We had 10 drives in FSU territory and 10 points to show for it, but a hell of a lot better than 3!

It's very obvious, especially in person, the Miami coaching staff has little
faith in Berlin. The offense has been restricted to ridiculous degree, a
bizarre number of swing and screen passes instead of going downfield. We simply
can't challenge vertically like the Miami norm. Twice we even snapped directly to
a receiver playing QB, once with disastrous results.

One and zero, of course, and especially against an arch and now conference
rival, basically eliminates any right to complain, and not savor.

7. Excellent analysys...
You're right about Berlin and it's the same thing the Phins have done the last couple of season with Fiedler... They are handcuffed into calling offensive plays that are conservative with the hopes of keeping Berlin and Ears from fucking up. I do say this though... Keep Berlin in the shotgun...He is much more effective and has played rather well in that position. I am pleased to see that Gore looks like two ACL surgeries have not slowed him down...He looked good.

Now the Defense... I'm predicting that this will be one of the best UM defenses ever...WHY? Because they are finally tackling.... It's been maddening the last couple of seasons albeit they were great D's, they seemed to miss tackles... They weren't missing anything last night... Rolle is a true superstar... Think about it... We've had Ed Reed, Shawn Taylor and now Rolle... WOW!

Keep Berlin in the shotgun and we may run the table... MHOP

8. The defense is also extremely disciplined
Not a single offsides penalty or personal foul, when we usually have at least a couple of each. Agreed, the tackling was superb and the new LBs very active and reliable. We certainly would not have held FSU to 3 offensive points minus Rolle, who could have been a late 1st round pick last spring.

Berlin is best in the shotgun and also deep play action to the tailback. Last year he miracled the Florida game out of nonstop no-huddle for a quarter and a half, but that's not Miami football and we have not utilized it since then.

Leaving for Pro Player in a half hour...
