My little boy is now a kindergartener
He started his new school this morning. Like the old pro he is, he wandered around, sized up the situation, then settled down with paper and markers. I'm so proud of him.

1. well I hope
You dressed him in an anti-bush tee shirt, filled his bag with KERRY/EDWARDS folders and KERRY/EDWARDS pens and KERRY/EDWARDS gluesticks and KERRY/EDWARDS crayaons and stuck KERRY/EDWARDS pins to all his other outergarments.

you know, like a GOOD parent wood. ;)

seriously though, that's nice to hear.

2. I remember
taking my son to his first day of school. Everyone said, "You'll cry, just wait and see." I protested heartily, "I'm strong. He's ready. We'll be fine."

Well, HE was fine but when the door to his classroom swung shut and I was left out in the hall, I sobbed like a 8 year old with a skinned knee. The emotion completely blindsided me.

Now my son is 9 and this year, for the first time, he asked me NOT to walk him to his class. "It's just not cool, Mom." Ah, how quickly we parents become an embarrassment. *wink*

3. Congratulations to the both of you.
He'll be out standing in the alley behind the school...coppin' a smoke before you know it.

Just thinking about our older son's first time is bringing a wee tear to my eye.

:hi:

8. Or walking around the block with his friends
smokin' a doobie, just like Mom did. (Those were the swingin' 70s, my friends.) Just think, today kindergarten, tomorrow bail. They grow up so fast.

4. so ya cried right?
I know I did and it was 19 years ago. I didn't cry with the secound one going because the shock was not the same as letting that first child go.

7. Actually I didn't cry
I ran to the supermarket and got him a lunch because I forget to pack one :-) After I brought the little scholar home, I took a three-hour nap. The kid played quietly in his room or on the computer.

6. Good For Him
My niece started this year, too! For a while now, we were worried about her overattachment to mom. But, come first day, out she goes with big sis, onto the bus, waves bye to mom, and off to school. No worries.

She says she likes it! I figure your little boy does too.

9. My son took to kindergarten too.
Problem was he liked it too well. He had very bad, undiagnosed ADHD and could not sit still and keep his hands to himself no matter how hard he tried. I got to know the teacher pretty well through the year all the conversations we had.

10. Congrats
They grow up to fast or sometimes not fast enough. Your story about the forgetting the lunch made me laugh. I can't count the number of times I've drove home to get papers or a lunch that I forgot. My kids usually remember but I forget. :sigh:
