Post your nominations for American Music Legends
All catagories of music. Here's some of my picks-

Stevie Wonder- probably the greatest American music legend of all time
Bruce Springsteen- The Boss!
Doc Watson- Master finger-picker from the mountains of North Carolina
Ray Charles- A true original
Johnny Cash- Basically created modern country music.
The Funk Brothers- the unknown heroes behind the Motown Sound

6. But half of those suck.
And half of them are British. And a quarter of them suck while being British, thereby rendering them completely ineligible.

9. Well, the actual fractions may be off.
I'd probably say it's less than half. ;) And upon further review, I have determined that there is only ONE sucky Brit on the list, falling well short of the "quarter" I rashly suggested.

I sincerely believe that the following artists suck: The Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Jerry Garcia (why are Jerry and the Dead separate items on this list?), James Taylor, CSN&Y, Simon & Garfunkel (again, why solo Simon and duetted Simon on the same list), Jackson Browne.

I am quite certain that the following artists are British: The Beatles, Van Morrison, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon (another problem rearing its head again), Elvis Costello, Eric Clapton.

Leaving us with Mr. Eric Clapton as being a big, sucky Brit. :P
