So there's this show on FOX now, which is essentially a FOX-ified remake of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition show, which itself is a remake of the various TLC home renovation shows, which essentially all draws from This Old House.
I like the TLC shows - they show occasional innovation, whether restricting the time, restricting the budget, restricting the work crew, or a combination of these. Plus, they show the actual work being done.
I even enjoy Extreme Makeover: H.E. It's a bit sappier; all the families are especially needy or poor, and Disney/ABC capitalizes on their personal plights. But that's fine, too. The humor sucks, but they still show a lot of the work, and there's a general impression of good intentions. And the homes always turn out great, except for the one bedroom they decide to "theme" and go maybe a little overboard with.
This FOX show (I don't even know the name) is pure evil. It's about 50% interviews with the family members about their tear-jerk backgrounds, 25% scenes that have absolutely nothing to do with the rebuilding of the house, and 25% the hot blonde triplets in the tight t-shirts hovering around the kid in the wheelchair. It's like they took EM:HE's formula of:
-Wacky/loud attractive physically-fit male host -Flagrantly stereotypically-homosexually dressed male designer -Attractive tight-shirted brunette female designer -Attractive blonde female carpenter (three of them here, the triplets) -Family with at least one kid with some kind of physical or social handicap
And completely bastardized it to its most, well, extreme. It's the car wreck of home improvement shows. I'm still watching. They've been hand-biking for the past ten minutes with no scenes of the house. Help me.
"When I rolled Steven into the bathroom after we knocked down the doorframe, that's the first time I'd seen him smile."
