Will Karma come back and kick my ass because I am killing ZILLIONS of fire
ants?

They keep building and building and building...

I keep killing and killing and killing...

They can't take the hint that I really don't want them here.

I mean if I left them unchecked, their house would cove mine and me and my dog would become ant food. They are really starting to piss me off!

I'm ready to start piping Brooks and Dunn music into the ground to try to drive them off. Any suggestions? I'm killing 10-12 mounds a week. I'll bet Ortho's stock has gone up 15 points due to me... WAIT! Is it the Ortho people doing this?

Time to put CCTV on the yard to see.

1. no... fire ants are an imported species
and if they can be wiped out in the states, i am sure there is a special place in heaven for you. if there is a heaven.

i have never seen fire ants...the web has good stuff...i would type in fire ant organic control...ortho, i believe, is a neurotoxin and will affect mammals and birds and fish as well, does not break down quickly, will get into the ground water...give you and your dog parkinson's...

3. Good.... Maybe we won't feel the bites so painfully...
A fire ant bite looks like an abcessed pimple... Yeach.

Plus, with the parkinson's, we could do a better job of shaking out the poison.

(Tongue in cheek, here. Trying to make light of a rotten situation).

2. Ortho is a generic temporary fix...
Go to your local farm co-op and get some of the real stuff. Unfortunately, I don't have a specific name for the 'real stuff', but it was dry granular bait. When I used to live in the south, I had those dastardly little miscreants invading my property too. Once I went to the co-op and got the recommended deterrent, they were history.

4. Good deal! I'll check out the feed and seed nearby. They usually have
just about the same items as the co-op.

5. okay. neurotoxins WILL get you a spot in hell whether or not there is one
this stuff (URL and description below) will not harm animals annd will kill fleas and ticks too. it's about 40 dollars for 2 pounds, and comes in smaller sizes.

if you do go for the non-organic stuff ask them to explain the dangers of it, use gloves, and a mask, eye protection, keep your animals away too. ask how long it take to break down. does moisture or sunlight break it down? what are symptoms of poisoning by your choice?

you should wear protective gear (PSE) when applying any pesticide, and know the dangers involved using ANY pesticide, 'organic' or not

good luck and stay safe!

6. fire ants!!!
I have a good friend who lives in Georgia..for years she fought the fire ants with every imaginable poison..then she got this hint from an old gulllah woman..and it works. She goes out to an ant mound and she tells the ants that in 24 hours she will be putting poison on their mound..she says it calmly and friendly. She then tells them that if they will go out to road..or into a nearby field, that she will not bother them there, but that if they stay in her yard that she will be poisoning them in 24 hours. It doesnt always work..and then she does poison them, but she said it almost always does work for her. Give it a try...and let us know how it works for you.

7. (From the Hospital) I tried that. Ants streamed from the mound,
from mounds in neighbors yards, the cotton fields nearby... They picked me up, biting all the while and threw me down an embankment and laughed at me as I tumbled into the briars below.

My attorney wants the name and address of the Gullah woman.

Thanks very much,

Billy in the body cast.

I live in Mexico, but just bought a little bitty house in the old section of Brunswick, Georgia! The fire ants are alive and thriving in Brunswick I can tell ya!! When the realitor was showing me houses, i repeatedly stepped on them...and then i would forget...and step in them again...geeeeez..slow learner, i guess.

9. Used to be (a writer). Haven't written seriously in years. I gave up
trying to make a living on it and moved back to Alabama years ago.

And don't feel alone. I have also had a conversation while inadvertently standing on a mound of fire ants. The conversation ended rather quickly.

17. i live in AZ and had lots of fire ants until I used the granular
bait

haven't had any in 4 years (thank heaven)

be sure to keep your animals away from it tho... some times it's a "you get what you pay for" issue.

19. I've pretty much decided to go with a "broadcast" type granular
bait. This is the worst I've seen them yet.

13. The best way to combat them is non-chemical
well, not that I've had fire ants, but I've had bug problems - cockroaches.

I used some of the nastiest smelling chemicals to kill the suckers and they still came back. Then I bought a $2 can of boric acid - works like a charm.

So every few months I put some boric acid in the corner of my cabinets and under large appliances (I have cats, so I have to be cautious) and I never see cockroaches again

Start with this website:

15. Neat site! Thanks for the link...
There were two more mounds that popped up last night. I'm considering a small thermonuclear device at this point.

18. LOL... I'm waiting for the next gun & knife show so I won't have to
wait for a "cooling off" period when purchasing my new Remington Deerslayer 25 Megaton TND.

You ought to see the scroll work on the casing... A panorama of Nagasaki. Plus you get a free trigger lock so it won't get detonated by an inquisitive three year old. (Which is needed here. News report of a three year old accidentally shooting her 9 year old brother with a 9 mm Glock last week). Sigh.
