Poll question: Rove: Toast, Or Not Toast?
We just saw the biggest Rovian show the GOP will have the chance to put on this election cycle. So whaddaya think? Did it work? Are they in trouble?

2. Rove is the toaster?
Rove is in the toaster, but the lever has not been pushed yet, and pure evil.

Hah! ROTFL! Did you deliberately reference the end of Terry Gilliam's Time Bandits with this one?

3. Not on purpose...I don't remember the end of Time Bandits
Seen it, but a long time ago. What has a toaster got to do with Time Bandits?

5. I thought the convention was incredibly ham-fisted...
I may be biased, but I've seen better productions in high school plays.

"9/11. Kerry sucks. Fear Hollywood. 9/11. Bush twins speak. Kerry sucks. Kick the protestor on the ground. 9/11. Arnold channels Rudolf Hess. Kerry sucks. Rinse, lather, repeat."

Nothing about WHY we should give these guys another four years. And who directed this piece of crap? Karl Rove himself.

6. But you have to look at it from the standpoint of Joe&Jane Public
We all know that Bush and the GOP are full of shit. But what about those who DON'T already know that? What about those who get their news from TV (which is, BTW, the majority of the American Public)?

What they see and hear is an alternate reality. They hear repeated talking points that end up sticking in their brain.

Kerry is a flip-flopper.
Kerry is a liar.
Kerry dishonored the Vietnam Vets.
Kerry voted against the military.
Bush is decisive.
It's a dangerous world, and the Republicans are the only ones with the resolve to protect you.
Bush will give you more money through tax cuts, and Kerry will raise your taxes.

Sad thing is, these strategies WORK. And they will only be countered by a similar effort, by the development of our own talking points that will be repeated ad-nauseum.
