Japan Bracing For Earthquake That Could Destroy It
<snip>

TOKYO has a 90 per cent chance of being devastated by a major earthquake inside the next 50 years.

A study by a government panel is the latest attempt by scientists to address one of the quake-prone country's most pressing concerns: when the next "Big One" would level one of the world's most densely populated cities.

Today marks the 81st anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake, which devastated the Tokyo metropolitan region in 1923, setting it ablaze and claiming more than 140,000 lives through the destruction of more than 700,000 homes.

Now, experts warn it's overdue for another.

"The chance of a magnitude 8-level earthquake hitting Tokyo in next three months is pretty high," Shukan Gendai magazine reported.

2. They would be better off trying to control the giant, radioactive dinosaur
problem. Ever since I was a tot there are various huge monsters (some controlled by aliens from outer space) wrecking the place. I would move. But I guess home is home.

Anyway, they need to get a handle on those things first.

3. Not to worry, the little twins will save Japan at the last moment.
They always seem to be at the right place at the right time.

4. Of course they save Japan
But look at the damage done in the meantime. Japan needs a real plan not dependant on diminutive magical creatures. Maybe a giant robot or something.

The first thing I would do - even before building the giant robot - would be to get rid of the nuclear plants. Those buggers seem to really attract the giant radioactive dinosaurs.

I can't believe they let this issue off the front page. If I was Japanese I would work like hell to get politicians who cared about this. Yet at the G7 confabs nobody discusses this at all. Weird.
