1. I dunno but
I sure as hell can't wait! I want to see how Palpatine takes over.(I've always secretly admired him, - I guess he reminds me of Karl Rove, but in a harmless, not destroying the world kind of way)

6. i can guess
he gains complete confidense over anakin and uses him to kill the jedi, there was a good sign of this (as well as the debut of general grievous) in the clonewars miniseries they had on CN

7. Fuck George Lucas
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 01:08 PM by Chovexani
I'm done with him after Crapisode 1. I have tried several times to watch Attack of the Clowns on cable but I literally can't sit through more than 10 minutes of it. I can't even hang in for the light saber fights.

The holy trilogy is all that exists in my little world. Lucas is dead to me! *spit* ;)

On Edit: Phew, you meant the holy trilogy. Sorry I am just a bitter, bitter Star Wars fan. :P I'd love to replace these Hong Kong bootleg DVDs I have.

One question I can never seem to get an answer to, is this release going to be the original films only digitally remastered? PLEASE don't tell me it's that "special edition" horseshit they re-released in the theaters a few years ago. :(

16. Oh that gun thing in ET pisses me right off
Good thing I have my old dusty VHS copy. I may just have to capture it and burn it to VCD before the tape dies.

Yeah, kids are really going to be terrified of...radios.

Why can't they leave our classic movies alone?! :argh:

25. Spielberg has edited the gun out of ET
did it a few years ago, so we'll never ever see the movie again with the gun being shown.

Lucas, when he redid Star Wars IV, also changed the scene with Han and Gredo so that now Gredo fires first, instead of it just being Han shooting him.

9. No, theyll be the "enhanced" versions
Which I actually like, except for the Gredo shooting first bullshit.

Otherwise I'm with you on the "Fuck George Lucas" crap. My God, Ep. 1 and 2 were bad. Just awful. He is such a worthless, obvious sellout non-artist. All whiz-bang gadgetry and effects, and nary a scrap of plot or good dialogue.

And I know he's really trying to do them campy, like the old serials - that's why the acting is so funny - but he hasn't managed to get the integrity of the serials. He has the form down, but not the spirit, so ends up being a sad, poor parody of what he thinks he is.

And he's a greedy, obnoxious twit, too.

Guess I'll be keeping my bootlegs then.

Star Wars really has descended into self-parody. Lucas is such a power mad fool and special effects whore it's not even funny.

It's really interesting to compare latter day Star Wars with the LotR movies. My best friend feels the same way about Lucas but he's one of those geeks that will take any crumb TPTB throws at us, and he got Crapisode 1 on DVD. We watched the making of docs on it and then we watched the making of docs on the FotR extended set. In literally every damn making of on the Crapisode 1 disc Lucas has his boot on the neck of some poor schlub at a computer. I felt so sorry for those guys.

Contrast that with Peter Jackson, who put a team together and basically said "have at it, I'll be by later to check out what you're doing". What a difference! But the funniest thing has to be the effects docs on FotR. There were many, many shots in that movie that I had no idea were SFX until I saw the docs. The main guy in charge of them said something along the lines of, let the story carry the film, the effects should be icing on the cake and not the cake itself...that the best SFX are unobtrusive and don't get in the way. The whole time I was watching it, I was yelling "HEAR THAT GEORGE?!" :argh:

That ep of the Simpsons where Bart and Lisa went to the faux Skywalker Ranch and demanded to speak with faux Lucas...priceless.

14. I thought the same thing watching the FotR making of stuff!
The story should always come first, and effects are there only to add to and enhance.

Lucas definitely needs to spend a few years learning under the heals of Jackson.

19. The story is what's it's all about
Recently, I've seen the first Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan and the Gable/Laughton "Mutiny on the Bounty". These were made in the 30's when special effects were primitive. Yet the stories flowed so well, the special effects (rear projection, models etc.) were never distractions from the film.

he has no conception of a storyline. The writing in Episode II was so damn bad I was literally moved to tears, and not in a good way.

10. Better sit down, kid...
There's no such thing as the original films. Lucas reached into the past and changed it permanently.

I'm not watching any Star Wars any more. And I especially don't want to watch the first one and keep saying, "I know it's been a long time, but I could have sworn..."

Jar Jar should have never been there....
but Darth Maul was one of the coolest bad guys I've seen in a very long time.
And the Pod race scene...minus the corny anakin bits was incredible....
can't wait till I get a surround sound to relive that race.

13. Too bad we only saw like 5 minutes of him
Darth Maul is the thing that has me the most mad at Crapisode 1, even more so than Jar Jar. He was SO cool--the best thing about that movie I think--and we literally got like 5 minutes of him and then he died. Gee, thanks, Lucas.

And the Pod Race scene? Stupid horseshit. Me and my friends were sitting in the theater at a midnight showing (in full Jedi regalia I might add :P), and I whispered to my best friend that the whole sequence was nothing but a video game and $5 says it will be out within 3 months.

Lo and behold, Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer came out on the PC not too long after that and then there was the arcade version.

15. Disagree and agree
I thought Darth Maul was pure cliche bullshit, designed - much like Jar Jar - to grasp the lower-brain-stem part of us and induce us to buy the action figure.

Pod Race scene also bullshit and unnecessary. Or, in keeping with the Star Wars tradition of a chase scene, leave it in, but cut ten minutes of it. It was WAAAAAAY too long. It took up valuable time that cuold have been spent developing the story.

But then, Lucas can't do story, so he needs shit to fill up screen time.

17. Ha ha
I knew DM was there just to sell action figures but I loved him anyway. These new Star Wars movies are like porn, you can't watch them for the plot, you just have to skip to the lightsaber fights. :P

Did you ever see the French & Saunders parody of Crapisode 1? It's 10 times better than the actual movie. The best part was at the end when Jennifer Saunders as Qui-Gon is doing the dramatic death scene and then she goes "oh forget it I lost the bloody plot..." :D

It's on a DVD called French & Saunders at the Movies and it has some more of their movie parodies on it...unfortunately it doesn't have the Titanic one on it (another one that was 10 times better than the actual movie).

is in, right? isn't that Dawn French?

Funny women, if that's the group I'm thinking of. haven't seen either of the parodies you mention, though.

21. I disagree with...
what some of you say about Lucas...
George Lucas can tell a great story. It just doesn't appear that way because the screenplay is usually so awful.

The fact that Darth Maul sells alot of figures shows you Lucas's genius ability to create charaters (excluding Jar Jar). Most people who create charaters can't sell figures...because the charater is so boring.

27. Did Lucas create the character or did the actor overcome its shortcomings?
Just as Terry Nation created the Dalek in the 1960s (basically a nazi-like monster), but the person who actually designed its appearance is why the Dalek became popular.

he can write great stories. The Star Wars stories are incredible. He just needs to get someone else to write the screenplay. Maybe Quentin Tarnintino.

29. I Hate Episodes I and II, BUT...
I'm still drawn to them because I want to know how the back-story connects to Episodes IV-VI. I just watched ATOC on HBO, and boy, does that movie ever suck. However, it still interests me because I love making all of the connections to middle trilogy.

If there's a God in heaven, Peter Jackson does the final trilogy in the saga.
