Anyone Else Watching the US women's soccer game? (spoilers)
Edited on Thu Aug-26-04 03:42 PM by Cheswick
This is history in the making. Four or five of these women will be retiring after this Gold Medal game. Remember in 1996 when they won their first Gold? Remember in 2000 when all the little girls showed up at the Olympics to watch and dream of when they might play in the olympics? Remember it was the year that the woman's soft ball team also first won and we knew american women were giving us something to be proud of?

I don't know why watching these woman play makes me tear up. I didn't have that reaction to the mens B-Ball game this morning. Maybe it is because when I was growing up there were no prof womens team sports to make us dream. Sure there were Tennis players and golfers etc... but an American womans basketball, softball or soccer teams to cheer for in the olympics.

They are tied 1-1 with Brazil and they are playing a very tough game.

1. two fiftenn minute periods in overtime and no refs on the field
to start the overtime. The players are standing around waiting for the game to begin.

5. Those women are out there beating the crap out of each other
and the ref gets hurt.

This is one of the most physical games I have seen.
