I just checked out The Communist Manifesto...
Anyone ever read it? What did you think? Any other good books you'd recommend?

1. Okay, but completely wrong on a lot of historical points.
Their predictions about the future are comical because some of them are so far from what actually occured.

See if you can't find some of Marx's other writings. His opinions on world events are sometimes informed and enlightening, and at other times completely absurd.

7. I've heard that...
I just signed up for my new library card today too and the application asked for my social security number. I left it blank.

4. Tom Franks' What is the Matter With Kansas

If you forund Marx interesting "What is the Matter With Kansas" is a must read. Franks outlines how references to class has been all but eliminated in American political discussion and how the Working Class was largley hung ou to dry.

Franks' online magazine The Baffler has very interesting articles as well.

5. That was on my required reading list...
...for high-school civics class. My mother bought it for me at the beginning of the (Fall 1965) term along with all the other school stuff I needed. Halfway through the semester, she discovered it on my bookshelf, decided that meant I was a communist, and took me to a shrink to have me cured.

So I never actually read it.

Good luck.
