2. Duh
We have the most athletes, and the best technology, not like anyone else stands a chance.

The Medal Count should be adjusted for # athletes present

7. Are you being serious?
Superior athletes?
What makes them superior?
Could it be tech and funding?

8. tech?
explain yourself.

how much tech is needed for beach vollyball or gymnastics?

Canada for instance has everything we have.

USA 66
Canada 5

We have 10X better tech than Canada?

Dont think so.

9. Okay one event
Also, with Canada you're comparing a country of 30 million to a country of 260 million. Hence you have a much larger drawing pot for athletes. But by tech I mean your system for developing athletes, like Australia is superior. Conditioning and equipment play a large role.

16. I'll probably get slammed for this
but I don't care about the "U.S" winning anything. As a former Olympic-watching junkie, it just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Maybe it was the oiled bodies playing beach volleyball (I'm waiting for mud and/or jello wrestling to become an event) or the whole plastic feel, or the medal count and the tenths of a point because a diver's feet were flat, but it's not fun or amateur or exciting to me anymore. Or maybe it started when professionals got involved, maybe it's because of all the endorsement shit, maybe it's the fact that steroid use is now almost a ho-hum thing.

Yes, I am an old grump.

Every word of your post rings true for me, including the former junkie part.

Rather than being an old grump, I think you just have an honest, objective perspective.

22. Its that type smug attitude...
that makes me want to pull for anyone but the US.

We are the "best" in the medal count becasue we have the MOST athletes there, and have the most funding, technology, and training, we are like the New York Yankees to Baseball, or Microsoft to the Computer Software market, only good because of $$$$ and shear weight.

23. What I don't understand is ...
If the United States has 10x the population of Australia, why doesn't it have 10x the medals?

:freak:

25. I root for the US
And I am especially pleased that Paul Foerster won the gold in the 470 sailing event. That was very cool. He is from the town I live in now (Corpus Christi) and just got in tonight.

I like to see good performances though more than anything. I loved it that the Greeks won the synchronized diving. A strange sport but it must have been nice to win at home like that.
