I wonder if the list is incomplete. I thought "Georges" (with an s)
was a retired name but don't see it on the list. "Gilbert" is
most definitely retired.

On edit: Another list confirms that "Georges" is now replaced by
"Gaston" which will be this year's "G" if we get that far down the list.

I do think Hurricane Gaston is a rather humorous name when all is said and done. Even Tropical Storm Gaston is a tad amusing.
