1. Soundwise, I miss their early sound like from "Reckoning" and "Life's

Rich Pageant.".

Lyrics are very poignant. "Leaving NY isn't easy..I saw the light fading out." Sad and eery..

2. listening to it for the 2nd time

while i also prefer the harder r.e.m. (and supposedly, this cd is going to be mostly a very hard rock album), i really dig this-very atmospheric and lush

3. meh, needs more editing.

the build up is solid (but sleepy), but the refrain falls horribly flat afterwards. only the last resounding choral refrain (the 3rd/last one) is a worthy enough refrain for the build up. otherwise a song to drown sorrows in, but doesn't really do anything for me; 2/3 of the song is just too tedious and incongruous. i would have shelved this song and promoted another.
