8. Guam, Samoa and the Virgin Islands
all have their own teams, too. Territories get to send their own teams.

23. Makes sense to me
Territories aren't really part of a nation - they generally have less rights and less responsibilities... take, for instance, Puerto Rico, which does not get to vote, but also does not have to pay taxes.

13. I think they should stick to real countries.
How many people live in the Netherlands Antilles, or Guam?

16. There was a story on NPR's lunchtime show today that dealt with the .
same topic. Something to do with the IOC recognizing Puerto Rico's olympic team in 1948, around the same time the US made it a territory.

Although I do like the idea of showing us what a jump shot is. Nice jab doodlehaus.

19. Puerto Rico is still a country...
Edited on Tue Aug-17-04 03:01 PM by Devils Advocate NZ
Its just that its currently occupied by a foreign power, just like Iraq.

Now when the US makes Puerto Rico a state, THEN you might have a point about it not having a team in the Olympics.

Of course, then it's team would be the USA team.
