The most ANNOYING song ever.
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 03:24 AM by UdoKier
For me, it's not necessarily bad songs. Usually it's songs that have been played to death by too much radio airplay.

The most annoying song to me on first listen was: Pet Shop Boys' "Domino Dancing".

"All dayall day, watch them all fall down
all dayall day, domino dancing" :puke:

The most annoying after too much airplay (and most annoying overall was:

"Highway to the Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins

It was the most odious and obnoxious thing in a stunningly annoying movie.

God, I remember being in the fifth grade and hating that song with a passion. I just can't stand that damned, howling, "Diva" delivery. And it was on the radio and TV all the fucking time.

Dolly Parton wrote it; her version's better.

a friend of mine was in Rome a few years ago, and happened to turn on the tv about 1 in the morning. apparently, a lot of stations there switch over to porn that late, and this one featured a women...enjoying herself to that song. i started out hating that song, but i have to admit, that makes it a LOT funnier

I swear, there were some songs written specifically because the writers knew they'd be licensed to be re-worded and used to sell shitty cars, and that's one of them.

Songs like that, as well as the aforementioned "Danger Zone", as well as the pop-culture imagery they are associated with never fail to remind me of how out of touch I am with mainstream American tastes.

:D

In all seriousness, like Dylan or the Beatles, I think whoever says "I hate the Beach Boys" just hasn't been exposed to a song they'd like yet. All the critical focus is on the early hits and the Today!-Pet Sounds era, so a lot of people miss out on some of their best tunes.

And Tom Petty. And Paul McCartney. And Elvis Costello.

This is what Bernstein said about "Surf's Up":

Poetic, beautiful even in its obscurity, 'Surf's Up' is one aspect of new things happening in pop music today. As such, it is a symbol of the change many of these young musicians see in our future.

You probably havent heard it. It was never that popular. But here are a couple lyrics:

Ooooo...Shawty crunk on the floor wide open
Skeet so much they call her billy ocean
Roll, like a 18-wheeler
That hoe fine, but this hoe a killa'
She leakin', she soakin' wet
She leakin', soakin' wet

29. Boy, that's tough..
And these overlap---

There's irritating in terms of singing style, particularly that ersatz cheez whiz diva thing-- Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion.

There's irritating in terms of utter crap that, for some reason, stupid people seem to love; particularly when it is a rip-off of something that was, actually, good. I'll never forgive Vanilla Ice (who doesn't suck any less just because 10 years later he took time off from his burger king gig to announce that he knows he sucked) for what he did to Queen's "Under Pressure", for example... Made all the worse by the fact that certain (ahem) younger people LOVE that song, for god knows what reason. It's POO! PLAIN AND SIMPLE! Listen to the queen song or don't listen to anything.

There's songs that are irritating in terms of intellectual content, or lack thereof: Think, "Yummy, Yummy Yummy, I've got love in my tummy"

There's songs that are irritating because the message they contain is so hateful or onerous or negative or all of the above. Misogynist hip-hop, homophobic speed metal, that kind of crap.

There's songs that are irritating because they come from teenagers or twentysomething poseurs with "attitude" who think they're too cool for their own good. A certain whiny style of corporate pseudo wannabe punk that was popular a couple years ago is a prime example. I could name a few bands, but, why bother.

Last, but certainly not least, there are songs that are irritating because of their asinine political content. You know, the songs by the people that Laura Ingraham would never dream of saying "shut up and sing" to. For some reason a line about "We'll stick a boot in yer ass" springs, immediately, to mind.

Bottom line is, there's a helluva lot more crappy music than there is genuinely good music, if you ask me. I think there are a few rare characteristics that make an artist have longevity and his or her catalog remain relevant with staying power: These folks are few and far between (but I can think of at least 3, off the bat, that are on the Moveonpac tour) I would sum the traits up as follows: integrity, originality, intelligence, an ability to change and evolve and continually challenge oneself as an artist, and a willingness to listen to one's own inner voice and remain true to one's beliefs and artistic vision, as opposed to following the dollars or the whims of the public or the tides of changing fashion.

Very few musicians seem to do that, but the ones that do stand out all the more.

32. Wow,
that about sums it up. But I still have a soft spot in my heart for the Beach Boys, when I was twelve years old and dreaming of boys and days on the beach and good waves. I think surf music is getting a bad rap here, and never forget the king of the surf guitar, Dick Dale and the Deltones, man they blew us all away. Rock on.

I can get burned out on em, but I certainly think they've got their place. One of my favorite bands in the world has been displaying very beach-boys influenced tendencies, of late.

And "pet sounds" is psychedelic, bottom line.

75. I think I always choose this one.
But some of the stuff I've been hearing on the radio recently rivals it.

MacArthur's Park...is melting in the dark...

BLEEEEEEEEECH!!

79. Songs Not Mentioned Yet
I know people are going to tell me I'm wrong, but I think "Freebird" is one of the most overplayed songs of all time. I couldn't even stand it when it was new.

Others that always got on my nerves:

Feelings

Traces by Classic IV

Anything by Madonna.

87. OK...Here's Just For You....
It's Electric!

-You can't see it (It's electric)

You gotta feel it (It's electric)

Ooh, it's shakin' (It's electric)

(Jiggle-a-mesa-cara

She's a pumpin' like a matic

She's a movin' like electric

She sure got the boogie)

-You gotta know it (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

Now you can't hold it (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

But you know it's there, yeah here there everywhere

-I've got to move, I'm on a party ride

I've got to groove, groove, groove

And from this music I just can't hide

-Are you comin' with me?

Come let me take you on a party ride

And I'll teach you, teach you, teach you

I'll teach you the electric slide

-Some say it's mystic (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

You can't resist it (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

You can't do without it (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

Jiggle-a-mesa-cara

She's a pumpin' like a matic

She's movin' like electric

She sure got the boogie

-Don't wanna lose it (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

But you can't choose it (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

But you know it's there, yeah here there everywhere

(Horn Instrumental)

-I've got to move

Come let me take you on a party ride

And I'll teach you, teach you, teach you

I'll teach you the electric slide

(Horn Instrumental)

-Some say it's mystic (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

You can't resist it (It's electric-Boogie, woogie, woogie!)

86. Honestly? Anything on my mother's play list....
She's got a tin ear. (Where I got perfect pitch from is anyone's guess.) She likes new country. Has a serious thing for most of it -- we've got an agreement that Dixie Chicks are okay given I get to pick the album.

Other than that....

#1 may be boot scooting bullshit followed by that achey breaking-shit song.

Pcat (who wonders why the fuck people are surprised that she turned out goth (now outgrown), educated and metropolitan when they see the foundations.....)

Edited on Mon Aug-16-04 04:44 AM by ariesgem
I loved Rick James (RIP) but THAT SONG was played to death. He had a string of hits in the late 70's and early 80's but when he died, all the lazy media whores said about him was he was known for the hit "Super Freak". YUCK!!! My favorite song was Mary Jane.
