Poll question: My Norton Internet Security 2003 is about to expire...
Should I renew it, go out and buy the 2004 version (that also has the lovely product activation fascism), or use another product?

Thx!

6. My PC-cillin just started giving me problems
Up until recently, it's seemed fine.

Is this a scheme to get me to upgrade from 2000 to a newer version? Are all virus softwares like this?

8. I believe so.
I used Norton for years till they pissed me off. I tried the trial version of the one I mentioned & liked it so much that i bought the original software.

3. I you do not need PC..Mac is the way to go.
I used to be a WINTEL user but I have been a Mac user since 2000. Mac OS X is the best operating system hands down. It is a shame that Mac's share is so small, like the many masses who somehow like George Bush the masses think Windows is the only choice and then bitch when it screws them.

4. I'm a Linux user who still needs Windows emulation... besides,

Would you care to loan me $3000 so I can get the only Mac worth having (and even then I'd replace the crappy video card and double the RAM the instant I got it, add another $1000 into the kitty...)

After all, Al Gore or any other Apple exec isn't offering me any incentives, rebates, offers, whatever, to switch and their products are quite expensive. Someday they'll realize that. (I've found more apps for Linux anyway...)

MacOS X came about thanks to a free clone of Unix. Just as they fleeced the consumers with they swapped SCSI for IDE, they're doing it to you again by mooching off the efforts of thousands of people who created the free variant...

I don't mean to say Macs are bad products. I object to their pricing, without incentives there is no benefit to switching (especially with thin clients about to usurp desktop PCs anyway), and their business practices over the years aren't entirely dissimilar to Microsoft's. They just exploited other people in other avenues (namely the school children...)

9. Linux is a variant of Unix too
Linux like all other operating systems has its pitfalls too. Linux is being commercialized as well. Novell, RedHat and others are trying to turn Linux from open source to a closed platform. Plus profiting off a product itself is not a crime. I agree Apple needs to do better in pricing but it shoulders both the software and hardware costs so naturally they are going to be higher. I grew up using Apple II's in school they where great machines better than the TRS-80's and other junk.

11. Norton drove me nuts
I ended up disabling it after I paid for it. :grr:

The 2004 might have all of the kinks out of it and if it's not that much of a price difference I would go with 2004.

12. I used NAV 2001 for three years and it worked OK.
When the license expired I would uninstall it and reinstall it. A few months ago I bought NAV 2004 and installed that. It caused me a lot of problems after I installed it. The Symantec website said to uninstall and reinstall. I went by their instructions and got even more problems. After wasting a hell of a lot of time with it and a lot of personal aggravation I just uninstalled it altogether and reinstalled NAV 2001 and all is OK now. As long as it gets the updated A/V data files that's all I need and I'm happy with that. If you ask me NAV 2004 is a load of crap and they can keep it. Next time I need A/V software I'll look somewhere else.

13. NAV is the
biggest piece of crap you can install on your computer. My question would be why does anyone want all the problems that program gives you and you have to PAY for it? I have used NAV but never again. I use AVG and it's free and VERY reliable. When I used NAV I got so many false positives I thought the hack the planet organization was after me every time I was on the internet. Norton Sucks! plain and simple. Try and delete it off your computer once. You will soon become a computer tech trying to understand what all that crap program put on your computer. And as stated above in another post you can not simply uninstall and reinstall and have another year for free. Unless you are into reverse engineering of software. All you have to do is go to any computer help site and view the thousands of problems that people come in with about Norton. Try this site which is a great help site and it's free. (CAUTION) this site also has alot of repukes ready to try and kick your ass in the Civilized Debate forum.

Try this FREE program AVG http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

14. You can uninstall and reinstall
Edited on Sun Aug-08-04 08:22 PM by TroubleMan
make sure you delete all the registry keys and the folder on your hard disk. Skip the registration, and you've got another year.

On my computer (the one I'm on now), I didn't have to delete any registry keys or the folder. It worked with just an uninstall and reinstall. I guess it's different for each computer.

But I know from doing the uninstall, deleting registry keys, and deleting the folder works....I've done in several times.

(on edit) I agree it's crappy...McAfee's much better, but I don't feel like changing now, and it catches what I need it to catch.
