Is it just me, or has this decade just sucked so far?
2000 was fine, up until Bush stole the election. I let it roll off my back and 2001 seemed to be going well until 9/11. In 2002, things just started getting darker. A lot of little things were going on. I was getting more unhappy with the economy and the way this country was going. We lost the mid-term elections. 2003 was a piece of shit for me. For me, the worst did happen in a nutshell this year. In addition, the beginning of Iraq war and Bush becoming even more of a megalomaniac. I actually feel better about 2004, except for two major things. I lost a job in a negative way. THough I did not care for the job anyway. And one of my friends died. The war in Iraq is still raging on, the economy is still in shambles and while the Democrats seem to be gaining momentum, I feel so uneasy. Fortunately, I don't think my uneasiness stems from an intuitive belief that things will be bad so much as fear but still.

1. no its not just you but theres been some good as well
like in April of 2001 my youngest brother was born, that kid is my frigging twin 13-14 years younger, of course a couple of months after that I lost my godmother. Its a lot like Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times"

2. I've seen more of the worst of times.
Though, my brother did get married in 2003. That year was a vile piece of shit for me.

27. Well....
...I will just say, that everything bad that could happen did happen in 2003. I had something that I cared deeply about taken away from me by some petty people. A career aspiration. I couldn't find a job. That is all I got to say about that.

7. Honestly......
I think you should try to concentrate more on positive things in life and try not to dwell so much on the bad stuff. I don't know you but I really feel like you'd be alot happier if you did. Someone who focuses on the bad all the time is bound to be negative and depressed all the time. Know what I mean, Jellybean?!

did I mention that my uncle killed himself that same year, and then I lost an aquaintance of mine in a terrible accident, we werent friends but we knew each other, theres nothin more tragic than a 15 year old kid dying before his times.

4. So far, the whole millennium has bit the big one.
I have become steadily less financially secure, my marriage has fallen apart, my mom is getting old and sick, and, dammit, my temples are going grey.

At least nobody has shot at me since 1992...at least that's a step in the right direction.

5. Yeah...........
I totally understand how you might feel like life could be better but I always try to remember that it could be a lot worse. I'm really sorry about your friend. I understand what your going through. My freshman year of high school I lost two. Two of my closest friends in the whole world. One in October in a car accident and the other in December in a plane crash. (private plane). So if you need to vent, know that there is someone who understands that sort of pain.

I cant say I ever lost a job, unless I quit, but thats another matter entirely. I'm sure you'll find something else in no time. If its money your worried about, remember there are no small jobs. Only small people. Nobody wants to work drive through at Taco Bell but if it puts cash in your pocket while you're finding something else then so be it. In the mean time. I think you should try not to worry so much about things that you just cant change, friend. All you can do is your part and even that cant be done over night. I hope this has helped you out just a little bit. Hang in there!;)

6. It's been a sucky decade for me as well
I've had lots of personal problems that I've had to work on. Fortunately that all seems to be working out.

But it's been a terrible decade for politics. First the stolen election and then downhill from there.

10. True but...
Things seem to be looking up for the moment. Lets keep our fingers crossed. I have a lot of faith in Edwards and Kerry. Especially Edwards. I really think things will start looking up soon. I hope so anyway!:grouphug:

8. It's been kindy sucky from a world-wide perspective
It seems to me that progress has been put on hold ever since * stole the election; all I seem to hear about nowadays is how depressed/fat/anxious people are. That is, if their country isn't involved in civil strife/war/famine/etc.
I think more people are unhappy then they were in 1999...
Personally, the last four years have been ok. I got into a great college, have enjoyed Boston College tremendously, made a lot of new friends, met a wonderful man (who dumped me, but so it goes, to quote Vonnegut). All in all, I have a better sense of who I am, where I'm going, and the universe at large.

12. If I recall...
There were over 100 million lives lost to war in the 20th century. Sadly, that figure may be a foretaste of what is to come.

Militarism must end.

16. Sucking in a major way for me, too
Lost all four Grandparents (we were close) and two cats since 2000. No dates, finances in shambles, contracts paying less and clients going under, most of my friends have lost their jobs. I'm chronically ill and have a tough time getting through the week. Can't even muster the energy to mow the damn lawn!

I completely understand your sense of uneasiness. I have it too.

18. It all started going downhill
the same day Bush got in and banned government funds from going to groups which offer abortions overseas. on the anniversary of Roe v Wade. Then Hainan island happened. Then 9/11. Then I lost my job. Then 14 months later I got a new one right as the Iraq war was starting. Then I got fired so they wouldn't have to pay out benefits. Then I got a job with a company that basically went under. And now I'm unemployed again.

WHAT A GREAT DECADE IT HAS BEEN!

19. It may seem frivolous, but music this decade has sucked the most.
This is so far probably the worst decade for music since the Gilded Age (1900-1915).

24. On that note...
...one can also talk about television going to the dogs. I hate reality T.V. It is horrible. I have seen it come to fruition during this decade. There are a few good shows that started this decade: Scrubs, 24, Alias, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, etc. But is has been horrible for television as well as music. Though there is some good music. Like Sevendust. But not much. The music started going downhill around 1998-1999.

22. Little did we know that the Y2K virus that we were all so terrified of and
which caused so much free floating anxiety in revelers celebrating on Dec. 31, 1999 the coming of the new year and of the new millenium, the same revelers who breathed a sigh of relief when Jan. 1, 2000 came and went without a single computer glitch--That our real Y2K would usher in in the person of GWB. There were also those who argued that the new millenium would not start until 2001 and lo' and behold ... 2001 also brought us the tragic events of 9/11 and under the ever watchful eye of one GWB the Patriot ACT, the erosion of our Constitution and our Democracy ... and on, and on, and on.

Yeah, I agree the decade so far, SUCKS. It all started with the Y2K virus named GWB which befell the soul of our democracy.x(

26. Yes, it has.
I have been DIRECTLY affected by the past few year's outside events -- namely, the awful economy and job market situation.

I lost my job in 2001 and remained unemployed until two months ago, when I got my part-time Tower Records job. (Part of the reason I was out of work for so long was because I went back to school after losing my job.)

The economic downturn has been the defining factor of my life the past three years. I went from solid financial stability at the end of 2000 to being destitute and maxed out on my credit line today.
