They are all the stuff that is bad about fish condensed into something that looks like a fish.

12. They are essential for many classic dishes.
If you don't like ancovy fillets (took me a while to appreciate them), try anchovy paste. All that great flavor (plus, you can use a very little bit, and gradually increase the amount as you develop a taste for it) but none of those little hairlike bones.

13. Those are bones?
I thought they were salt crystals.

Can't make a Caesar salad or Worchestershire sauce without them. and back when I drank, they went well with smoked petite oysters and beer.Especially the ones rolled around capers...

There was a kid who would bring a bag of crackers and a tin of sardines to school for breakfast. He drank grape juice with it. It was hard listening to him eat that every morning. That crunching and squishing sound he made. Makes me gag even now. :puke:

25. Like the paste.
Thought I didn't like them, but then I tried them...

They have such an intense flavor!!

As long as I disguise the tube of paste, and never tell anyone what's in that divine sauce, everyone I know loves my anchovy and black olive tapanade. Mr. Pcat will eat my version of vodka sauce and puttanesca as long as he doesn't know there's anchovy paste in them.

Bagna Caulda (but for the fat content....) ceasar salad, on and on and on.... And the cats stand around and beg to lick the measuring spoon.... and my cats have very, very good taste and a refined palate.

But I don't like the bones.

Pcat

I used to work at Pizza Hut and every once in a while we'd get a call for anchovies on a pizza. So I decided to try them out one time and see what they were like. Yuck! I don't know how they ever got to be a pizza topping.

32. Anchovy haters need to try FRESH anchovies.....
Now, I like the brown salted things drenched in olive oil that come in cans ALOT, and I can see why some people would have an aversion to them.

However, if most anchovy haters had the chance to try FRESH anchovies I think you'd like them. They are not naturally salty, of course, and they are not so "fishy" tasting.

They are very subtle and are terrific in salads, on pasta, etc...
The only places I have encountered fresh anchovies have been Spain, Portugal and Italy.

43. I LOVE(!!!) anchovies
On pizza, in tapenade, Caesar and Nicoise salads, onion tart, etc. etc. I always buy anchovies in olive oil. You don't know what you're missing!

Talking about food I want to add that I'm always trying new things. If I don't like it, never again, but if I do like it, great. May I suggest you try walnut oil on your salad.
