I had forgotten how much local radio sucks (re. Summer thunderstorms)
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 09:22 AM by khephra
Our power was knocked out for the last few hours, and I was too awake to go back to sleep. Additionally, it was too damn hot to lie down.

So I pulled out a radio and listened.

Boy, I haven't been missing anything by just listening to internet radio, now have I?

1. Morning radio sucks
drive time radio is the pits, I guess because it's aimed at 9 year old boys. I got so made yesterday sitting in my car listening before going into the house, my one commercial radio station that I really like around here announced they are getting Johnboy and Billy.. ARrrghghg! :grr:

2. First thing I heard were sexist jokes about rape accusers of sports
figures. What a great way to start the day!

And I had been zenning to Air America right before the lights went out. Talk about a paradigm shift!

3. The sexism is probably the worst aspect
IMO. Second for me come the dump pranks they play on people.

4. That's why I love XM!
NO, it's not owned by Clear Channel. They currently own less than 2%. Hardly a controlling amount.

6. I may have to upgrade to XM or Sirius soon
Edited on Wed Aug-04-04 09:39 AM by khephra
My hookup is through my computer and stereo, so I get great sound as is, but the other work that I sometimes would like to do (or the games I'd like to play) keep me from being able to listen to AAR or ad-free radio much of the time. Our local cable system also has an abundance of good ad-free music channels, but I do too much recording off the air to make use of that as much as I'd like as well.

7. If you can afford it, XM is nice
but I don't have the $$$$ for that.
