Need Computer Help (once again)
Last night my home computer kept freezing up.

The mouse suddenly stopped working and the whole thing froze up.

It did this about four times.

Each time I had to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart the computer.

Anyone have any idea what's going on?

1. Try this

Clear out your TEMP files.

Hit "Start", "All Programs", "Accessories", "System Cleanup". This will clean up a lot of the crap bogging down your system.

Next, download AdAware. Get the updated files, then check for spyware.

Then, you'll want to defragment your system. It should be in the same area as the system cleanup. Defragmenting will organize your hard drive even better.

Also, check out this site:

http://www.pcpitstop.com

They will do a diagnostics check and give advice.

3. Short on memory?
Ours does that sometimes if I neglect to clean out Temporary Files/Cache

Also, do you have a zillion accumulated cookies? Found cleaning those out helps our 'puter too.

Lastly, are you using Internet Explorer for your browser? We switched to Mozilla & Firefox (hers & his thing at our house) and removed IE as it kept trying to run all the time in the background and it also would freeze us up.

We both love our Mozilla/Firefox browsers as they let us control cookies better and the PC doesn't get as cluttered with the ones we don't want while allowing us easy permission for the ones we do want.

Check you temp files (or cache) and empty that our first to see if it helps. Also, I found cleaning cat hair out of the mouse and keyboard makes things run better! ;) The beer Havocdad spilled just forced a new keyboard.

5. Bill Gate's home number...
I have it if you need it. I keep it handy for just such occassions. I say, why fool around with some tech support geek, go right to the top ;)

I concur with the above. Check for viruses/adware, clean it up, and try again.

Good luck

7. You may need a general housecleaning of your hard drive.
Do you or anyone who uses your computer use AOL? They're notorious for filling a computer up fast with useless clutter. Run Ad-aware and Spybot and keep them updated. Window washer is also good for cleaning out useless crap that bogs down your computer. I use it often. It cleans out cookies (you can select which ones to save or delete), temp files, history, etc. You can get a 30-day trial copy here:

8. If you do find a lot of adware on your box
Try firefox a free browser that makes an excellent IE replacement in my opinion.

Less popups and nonsense.
