Do you ever notice that when you post to a thread in GD or LBN, that the thread subsequently *dies*??

Just a Lounge thread, no biggie, but if nobody replies, I'm gonna seriously *cry*!

For Example....If you were to post

"President chokes on a pretzel" The thread will never die. That thread hung on and on and on.

And to this day will garner much attention.

5. I think I made a thread once...

nothing. I put it in LBN, so I assume the news was already posted days earlier and I think it was even deleted by the mods. Now I just hang onto other people's coattails by posting smarmy comments on their threads, because I am bitter and jealous.

6. Well, don't let it discourage you. It gets better with time.

Thread killing seems especially easy if you live on the west coast. Because everyone else has pretty much conked out and gone to bed about the time that you've finished dinner are logged on to see what's new.

It's also easy over these 3-day weekends to feel you've killed a thread. So many of those in the U.S. are having their last big vacation of the summer. And most of the posters herein are citizens of the U.S.

Too, many of us regular posters have fallen into the habit of mentally editing the signal to noise ratio by spending more time reading and responding to the posts of those we know and have had previous interactions with.

All of that contributes to a sense of having been the wet blanket that ended the party. What can I say. I live on the west coast, and I was new here once, too. Keep responding in threads, and before you know it, you'll be one of those people who we know and have had previous interactions with.

And we could all stand a "respond to a newbie" campaign, so folks wouldn't have to feel like the invisible man/woman.

7. I rarely start threads

Because they require a lot of care and feeding. I was able to keep my last thread going for days by strategic kicking. If it hits page three, kick it. Repeat. If it hits page three, kick it.
